Heather Watson forced to serve underarm in Sony Open defeat due to shoulder injury
Heather Watson has been making great strides up the WTA rankings ladder this year, but she was handicapped on Wednesday by a shoulder injury and endured a 6-4, 6-0 defeat at the Sony Open in Miami against the French veteran Virginie Razzano.
“Three days ago I woke up in the morning and I couldn't move my shoulder,” said Watson, who was forced to deliver a number of underarm serves. “The physios said my first rib had shifted up and my shoulder had gone into spasm.
“Until today I hadn’t hit an underarm serve in my life.
