Jack Draper

Quote

1st set Jack 6-3.  Could do without Musetti's coach shouting instructions at him all the time

2nd set went with serve ending in a TB which Jack won 7-4.  Nail-biting stuff!

Plays Casper Ruud in the final.

1st set - Jack got the break at 1-1 courtesy of Ruud serving two DFs, then at 5-4 Jack played an uncharacteristic poor service game and so failed to serve the match out.  Ruud then took the set 7-5, breaking Jack again at 6-5.

2nd set - Jack got the break at 3-3, survived being broken back, coming back from 15-40.  then broke Ruud again at 5-3 to take the set.

3rd set - Very long third game, but Jack eventually held serve, then Ruud got the break at 2-2.  5-4 Ruud served the match out to claim his first masters' title.

At least Jack's ranking will go up to No. 5 tomorrow.

Watching the final I am most conscious that Jack is playing allowing Casper to decide the tactics.Methinks this a bad idea when the Norwegian has so much experience on clay. Some terrible finishing has not helped. The approach must be to get shots out of reach as everything in a soft approach will come back often with interest. It is not good to watch, but I live in hope that he can take control. At least he survives at one set all and 2-1 up but on serve.

Here we go again. Jack, please play the ball longer but not out of court. The short stuff suits Casper. Jack deserved to lose his serve there. He looked a complete amateur on clay against the slow stuff. Please try to take control. A good drop shot after he pulled Casper wide was a good start but playing a clay expert is hard so he slips back out of a positive approach and plays some poor shots again. Some easy points on serve might help but he starts his next game with a double fault. Perhaps I expect too much?

While he deserved the win, Jack made him work for it.  Unlike you I thought Jack on the whole played extremely well, just a little unfortunate that his form dipped slightly in the decider.

Sorry if I sounded too negative about Jack but I just felt he had totally the wrong tactics and let Casper dictate. Never mind, he will learn as he has a lot of ability to play different ways.

Jack vs Vit Kopriva (current ranking No. 92).  Kopriva plays mainly on the Challenger Tour with six singles titles to his name.

1st set Jack 6-4.

2nd set Jack got a warning for racket abuse for smashing his racket on the court, creating a few holes in the process, having failed to break Kopriva's serve at 3-1 despite having chances to do so.   Jack went on to take the set and the match 6-3.

Plays Corentin Moutet next.  Moutet defeated Holger Rune in three in R2.

If he wakes up some days feeling very angry, maybe he should address the cause of it, to which end seeing a sports psychologist might help.
