Cox lost 4&3. He always struggles against the big servers. He was actually an immediate break up in both sets but ultimately Muller had too much power against him.

Muller has brushed aside almost everyone at this level in the last few months. Will be interesting to see how Kyle gets on against him.

In Ilkley, the only non-Brit who made it out of R1 went on to win the whole thing - Team Bath's Kiwi Marcus Daniell beat Lewis Burton in 2&5 in the final. Daniell actually won this event last year as well I believe. He actually had to save MPs in his first match against young Oli Hudson.

That's Lewis' best haul after over a year of struggling to make a QF - 15 points for the final as it's a $15k event. Klein and Pauffley both picked up 8 points for making the semis, whilst teenagers Jonny O'Mara, Andrew Watson (relatively unknown 17yo - upset Ed Corrie) and Julian Cash (beat top seed Dave Rice) both get 3 points or making the QFs along with 22yo Keelan Oakley.

There's another British Futures next week in Frinton, whilst Edmund (Recanati) and Golding (Kaohsiung) are playing in Challengers and James Ward is in the Bogota ATP event (top seed in qualifying - has been discussed in his own thread). Not sure about the likes of Cox or Smethurst.

Cox and Smethurst are in Binghampton and Richard Gabb is in Granby (both Challengers).

Ward is into the FQR in Bogota and gets 6 points for his win (a very topsy-turvy 1-6, 6-1, 7-6(3) against a doubles specialist - discussed in the Ward thread).

Excellent win for Dan Cox who puts an end to the 16 match winning streak of 17yo American Jared Donaldson, coming from a set down to win 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Donaldson was pretty much unplayable first set and a half, but Cox hung in there and came through a few very tight games in the third to close it out (including saving 4BPs at 4-3).

Plays the WR445 Darian King in the QFs, so a good chance of a semi-final here potentially. Unfortunately Dan Smethurst lost in R1.

Richard Gabb also recorded his first ever main draw Challenger win, beating a qualifier in the 600s 4&5.

Kyle Edmund beat Marc Giner 6-1, 6-4 in Recanati to make another Challenger R2 (mentioned in the Edmund thread).

And James Ward is into R2 of the Bogota 250 event after defeating Matt Ebden 6-4, 3-0 retired. He came through qualifying so that is worth 32 points so far. Faces Jimmy Wang (WR133) next. Mentioned in the Ward thread.

In Ilkley, biggest shock defeat was top seed Marcus Willis in R1 to Thornton-Brown. Only one non-Brit made it to R2... and that was an Irishman. Last week's winner Daniell isn't playing.

I watched most of this match - Dan Cox v another talented 17 year old, wearing same stripey top as Alexander Zverev!

Not much tennis at first, with lots of unreturnable serves from Donaldson - apparently serving at 120+mph - sounds high for a 17 year old? He only lost three points on serve in the first set. It wasn't looking good for Dan, but he hung on in the 2nd set, saving break points and eventually getting a break himself. Donaldson was getting more and more frustrated, complaining about line calls, Dan complaining about the complaining. There was quite a lot of talk going on between Donaldson and his coach and dad, with Dan having a bit of a go at the dad at one point! 

In the 3rd set Dan got an early break, and it looked as though it could all go one way - but absolutely not, there were some tense and hard fought games with break points coming and going for both. It was gripping - and all helped along by the wonderful Mike Cation commentary.

Richard Gabb (WR484) today beat the world #82 Lukas Lacko 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 to make his first Challenger QF!

His biggest win by a mile. Wow.

Takes on Irish #1 James McGee in the QFs (who is on the brink of making the top 200 for the first time).

Elsewhere, Kyle lost 3&3 to Bozoljac and Ward was crushed 3&1 by Wang.

At Futures level Liam Broady (1) and Luke Bambridge (3) both cruised into the QFs winning 1&2.

And in Ilkley the top three seeds (Rice, Corrie and Klein) and George Coupland are all into the SFs.

Dan Cox reaches his first Challenger semi-final with a 3&2 win over King. Smile Plays Stakhovsky tonight.

Gabb lost 3&4 to McGee.

Broady is into the semis in his US futures but Bambridge lost (both were playing under-ranked college players).

And in Ilkley it is Dave Rice who is victorious, beating Klein in a final set 'breaker yesterday before beating Coupland 4&4 in the all-Gosling final today.

Dave might well take out his CH of #283 now (will be close), whilst Coupland is flying up the rankings - he's very good on the grass. The two also won the Doubles final yesterday.

Lots of Brits in challenger action against next week.

Golding and Gabb (mentioned above) both through in their respective qualifying matches. Oli into the FQR in Astana and Gabb into QR2 in Lexington.

An all British final in the Dublin $15k this week as Ed Corrie and Josh Milton (bt Irish top seed Sam Barry) both see off foreign opposition. Guaranteed 15 points for the loser and 27 up for grabs for the winner. Much needed points for both players.

Jonny O'Mara made the QFs.

James Ward and Dan Evans through to the 2nd round in Vancouver Challenger. Wardy (6) beat Fritz Wolmarans 6-4 6-3, and Dan (5) beat Matt Reid 6-4 6-7 7-5 in a match spread over two days.

Today Wardy will play Odesnik (beat him last week), and Dan plays Taro Daniel. Whoever goes furthest here will be GB no 2 next week - there are just two ranking points separating Dan and Wardy in liverankings.

Evans, Ward and Cox will all play US Open qualifiers, and the 3rd Dan (Smethurst) is 11th alternate

Evans lost 4&5.

Since reaching his first ATP semi final in Zagreb back in February, he's had a pretty torrid year (not aided by an alleged knee injury).

Was defending finalist points here and is doing so again next week. After his US Open R3 points come off he's going to tumble back down to the 300s.

Wardy leading 6-3 4-2 v Kokkinakis - playing well. Commentator seems impressed...

..and it's a comfortable 6-3 6-4 win for James, served well, faced no break points. Plays Farrukh Dustov (WR 144) in SF
