My sister wants to buy a computer just for surfing the net and emails ect. She's never had one before. She'll want a good make but it won't have to have much in the way of features. Would a 'netbook' do this? I'm totally ignorant about this kind of thing. I'd appreciate advice from all you technogurus out there........and anyone else too!

Yes, a netbook would be perfectly fine and very cheap.
Worth bearing in mind when current laptop packs in.

Markie Mark, what should one buy if they need to charge a laptop's battery in a European country if their laptop was made in the US?

Nothing special, just a cheap travel adapter.

Well, I have to say, I'm not used to people stroking my ego but I kinda like it. So, how old are you again?

Do you not have to be careful about voltage? I know going to the US and plugging in things made for higher voltage from Europe etc is fine, but things tend to blow up when going the other way don't they?

Any modern laptop should be fine, they automatically switch the voltage based on whether it's plugged in a UK or US socket. Veronica, check your power adaptor says, "110-240V AC"
If you want to be super sure, just ring your laptop manufacturer.
