Would it delete all the files/installations made before that date that you set to restore it too?
I believe that potentially it can remove anything that isn't in the 'My Documents' folder.
So if you have any work saved to your Desktop, get it moved.

If only this were funny.
Yeah, Mark, I can't download anything onto this laptop because a) the Internet is being affected by the virus (at least that's what I'm gathering from it), and b) it's my mother's work laptop so I can't download anything onto it.
Let's just say it, I'm screwed.

That probably means it'll erase the application for my mother to get onto her work databases. Ah, ****.

Sounds like malware. My first PC suffered a very similar thing.

You can get on MW but not download an antivirus?

I'm not on the laptop, it's not mine. It's my mother's work computer. I have been assigned the task of figuring out how to get rid of this virus because my mother has this irrational fear that if her work's IT crew finds out about the virus, she will be fired.

And you haven't considered downloading the virus scanner via the working computer, transferring it to a USB stick and then installing on the bad computer?

I'll try it, I guess.
Now I just need to find a good link for it, before I end up infecting this computer.

No, it won't delete the files, as far as I'm aware.

You should come over and do this for me. That way you get in trouble if something goes wrong.
You're my scapegoat.

No, you don't
have
to but in the long term you won't want them running together.
Just remember, either of the virus scanners may think the other is a virus.

I'd assume that I would have to uninstall Avast anyway, since I don't think my mother's allowed to have anything downloaded onto the laptop that wasn't already there.

That's the problem with the distance. I can't help you out with these technical issues.
