I have to buy a new laptop. I've been using Dell and have been very happy with that, but I'm told they have the new windows 8 and it's very difficult to get used to, as it operates entirely differently. Anyone know anything about this?

Don't touch Windows 8 if you can. Windows 7 is far more user friendly and stable. Microsoft tend to bring out a clanger in every other system they release. It should be easy enough to get them to add 7 instead. My Dell studio has been bullet-proof comparative to the HP's I have previously had.

I have Windows 8 on my laptop and desktop but I avoid the new interface as much as possible. It's not easy to use and a lot of programs don't work directly from the start screen anyway - like Microsoft Office.
But if you get it to boot to the desktop mode then it's very similar to Windows 7. I do this and don't need to go to the Windows 8 start screen.

I got a reconditioned Windows 7 Dell laptop off eBay last week. It's absolutely brill - a £1000 laptop for £150, and no Windows bloody 8.
