Getting to know you - one and all!

I thought this thread might be appropriate as we have several new members who are in the 'upper' age group, all with excellent things to say about our 'hero' and I often feel it would be nice to get to know people when they post. It's not that I'm nosey - just interested in people. Too many details on an inappropriate thread and we're 'off topic' and that would be annoying for other site members. I don't mean for this to be just for seniors or anything silly - I enjoy talking to everyone and miss them all when they don't show up for a while - i.e. Charlienomad - where is he? I suppose he has to work sometimes but he's such a mine of information about all sorts of things.
There are people I've been chatting with on here for ages, such as Daisy and Elly, but I know very little about them - just that they live in Scotland. Amongst the super young people on here are of course, Hazel and Clydey - whom I have learnt a little about - Joe, Sir Panda, Mark et al of whom I know very little. One founder member I have met at that is 'Hoola Hoop' namely Cari or Tally who doesn't posy too often these days. She is a lovely lady with two Jack Russells and I will be going to see her again soon as knee problems are keeping her indoors.
As for me - I'm a bit of a writer - my husband takes the photos - still write for a local Devon magazine - love Dartmoor. my two daughters, three grandchildren and watching tennis. Love exploring the west country too, although I'm unable to walk the miles I used to. Love belonging to Murrays World and to another local website where I know most of the other members so it's very sociable. Hope you all join me occasionally on here, I shall look forward to talking to you.

Well done Jan .... love your title .... also everyone can go off topic here and just let their hair down!
I'm thinking that this thread should most probably be in Chit Chat so most probably Mark will move it over there ...........

Jan, did you know Tally before MW or did you meet up as a consequence of it?

No, I met her here, we had a bit of a conversation on line and I realised she was an older lady and then we discovered we lived an hour's drive away so last October Os and I went to see her. Most of you seem to be many moons from Devon, but you all seem friends to me now - just through MW - even when we disagree.

Don't think I've been to the secret lounge Andrew perhaps I should give it a whirl someday! I will say I probably wouldn't see anything I haven't seen before! There is no suggestion anyone should bare all - but people lead interesting lives and the older ones have a wealth of living to draw from for all sorts of things. Hobbies, interests - the past too, whilst younger people, students such as yourself and James and the girls, you do so many new and interesting things we were unable/not allowed to do when we were your age.

Yes - I think it's best in the Social lot, glad you think it's appropriate.

Jan
. Great - found it at last. Well done.
Didn't realise Chit Chat was a separate category, so no wonder I couldn't find it amongst the other threads.
Uh-oh ... it's in the list now.

Hi there, Aileen, glad you found it and look forward to talking to you perhaps through here when there's not much going on in the tennis world. I believe from one of your posts that you are a night owl - so I'll have to catch up mornings.

Even if there is a lot going on in the tennis world, there's always time for a quick chat,
and I don't mind getting a break from it anyway, but maybe your life is busier than mine, which wouldn't be difficult, but I'm not going into that just now. Have drawn Jean's attention to this thread - and will do the same with George, if he can bear to leave his tennis for a few moments!

Hello everyone, Thanks for starting up this discussion for the seniors ! In fact I remember Andy saying how surprised he was, that he has so many grandparents as supporters.
Well I'm a grandmother & I live in Suffolk & I've been watching & supporting Andy for many, many years now.
I've been hoping to find a companion to go & watch Andy play in touraments overseas, maybe Monte Carlo, Madrid or Rome. I would prefer an older person & I'm on a limited budget. I would really like to see him play but never had the opportunity. Although we have his fan websites, there does not seem to be anyone organising trips to see him play, so I thought maybe I could advertise for a companion. Is there anybody out there who might be interested ? Perhaps a group of us could go.............

I understand I'm not really allowed in here, being one of the youngest members, but I can't help but say that whenever I read the title of the thread, I want to burst into that Julie Andrews song, Getting To Know You! I think it's from The Sound Of Music but they recently used it on the Magnet Kitchens adverts...
Getting to know you,
Getting to feel free and easy!
I'll leave now...

Hello Rosie
Unfortuntely I can't travel for health reasons, but I think you've brought up a very good idea and hope you get a positive reponse. I suppose going abroad would be considerably cheaper than finding accommodation in London for Wimbledon. Also it would be much more fun, and anyway the Masters Series tournaments are so much shorter.
I only joined MW in January, having put off becoming a member for over two years because I thought it was only for "young things". I'm 67 and, although I was married briefly many years ago, I never had any children, so no grandchildren, but after a hesitant start I was pleasantly surprised to find that I wasn't the only senior member - in fact our latest one is a 74-year-old gentleman (and he really
is
a Murray fanatic!)
I've supported Andy since 2005. Maybe his appeal to the grannie generation is that secretly we'd all quite like to be his grandmother! I know I wouldn't mind, and I certainly don't recall feeling that way about Tim Henman. After Andy's loss in the AO final he looked so sad that I desperately wanted to be able to give him a big, big grandmotherly hug - and I wasn't surprised to learn that his real grannie wanted to do the same.
It's been nice having this little chat, although I'm still shocked by the news of the Polish air disaster. How these people must feel. I have Polish/British relatives who live in Warsaw. I've tried emailing them but I think websites in Poland may have crashed because I can't get through.
