Getting to know you - one and all!

When I come back I'll collect the newbies and send them a PM inviting them to post on here - you're welcome to do it if you want to - there do seem to be quite a few including the fresh lassie(/)
Nice idea - and don't go and dump that avatar I really like it!

Maybe you might have more success that I had.  I did PM a couple but they obviously either weren't interested or didn't have the time.

Come to think of it, though, there are "older" older members I've come across who might be interested, but whose ages have only recently become known to me, e.g. Araminta, who's 63.  And then there's Bev in NZ.

We have a few new people I see and it would be lovely to get to know them a bit better - Tessie seems to be the latest person and I see from the 'How do we talk about Andy thread' that she is younger than I am but a little bit older than some of the 'youngsters' - do hope you enjoy MW Tessie and anyone else who has recently joined. If you feel like it - tell us a bit about yourself on here - being nosey isn't the intention - it just helps people to respond if they speak with a bit of knowledge. This goes for anyone else 'new' or even not so new if they wish. I'm off to America next week just for a fortnight and I'll look forward to catching up on all the threads when I come back. hug

Hi Janscribe, only just found this thread, still finding my way around the site, thanks for the words of welcome. I follow Andy (and tennis in general) with my youngest daughter and my husband often feels a tennis widower when we disappear for days or weekends to watch Andy and Davis cup. I have been a Tennis supporter for many years and supported Tim through his ups and downs but do believe Andy has more chance of a Slam. Love the game and its nice to talk to like minded people.

bigarmhug  I'm really looking forward to your input, Tessie, especially as you've been lucky enough to watch Andy play.  That must make a difference to your perception of him.  Seeing people on TV is never quite the same as seeing them in the flesh.  I was priveleged to see Rod Laver play at Wimbledon on two occasions and remember thinking how small and skinny he looked compared to how he appeared on the telly.  Still a magnificent player though!

By the way, I hope you're not put off by some of the more aggressively negative comments that have appeared on MW in the last day or two.  Fortunately that's not common, although I have to say that the members of MW are probably amongst Andy's harshest critics simply because we care about him and want him to achieve his goals.  I followed Tim as well.  He was a great player but unfortunately he lacked that extra something that I believe Andy has.

Look forward to hearing more about you too.  Jan's away until 5 October, but that doesn't mean the rest of us can't chat.

Well, Andy's off on his hols and then to Miami and what a way he finished the season! I thought I would revive this thread and invite any newcomer to post here, tell us a little about yourself - as much as you feel comfortable with that is. This was essentially a'Getting to Know you' thread but we all enjoyed chatting so Aileen suggested we re-name it 'Chatterbox' but, I thought we'd open a separate thread and keep this for anyone who wants to introduce themselves. So if you're fairly new to MW this could be the place to post and, as there won't be any tennis for a few weeks, it will keep us in touch.

Hiya, I would like to start by saying thank you to everyone for being so friendly, from the minute I posted I felt comfy on this forum. I was born and raised in Edinburgh, got married at 21 and lived in Tehran, Iran for 11 years, I have two sons, they have finished Uni and the youngest just last year. One son lives in Manchester and the other in Liverpool. The eldest is into music and reading while the youngest is big into sports, he also plays tennis and has all the gear if you know what I mean. I have always enjoyed watching tennis and have had quite a few favourites in my time, but these have almost all retired now. I first saw Andy play at Wimbledon when he was just 18 and I fell in love with him so to speak, I thought he had a brilliant talent for being so young I was so impressed with the way he played and that's when I began to follow his progress, also he has a canny resemblance to my older son, which I did not mention to anyone as they would think  Whistle until my mother rang me up and said how he looked like her grandson, and even now when she watches all his games she always rings up after to discuss the match, and then always comments on 'Oh he looks like Neusha! I now eat and breath Andy Murray so bad that when he is in a tournament I have dreams every night of him on the court playing his match, even this WTF has not got out my system as up until last night I am watching the match against Rafa it's so clear as if I'm actually there and that dam song 'London' Anyway I hope to get my dreams away from tennis soon as I won't be watching any till the Hopman Cup.
Anyway I am a very loyal fan to Andy and always will be until he hangs his racquet up. Oh almost forgot I love Rugby, especially the Six Nations I find it all so exciting, but sorry not into football at all, it's boring in between goals.

Hope I have not went on a bit too much. Thank you again for your warm welcome.  cmonandy

It's lovely to "get to know you" a bit better and glad you are here and enjoying MW ...

Lovely post, ChristMac - fancy having a son who looks like Andy - I have no sons just two lovely daughters - one is 45 and the other is 25. Between first and second there was a divorce and the second just didn't seem to want to put in an appearance. I loved tennis but it was just Wimbledon until a few years ago when more time during semi-retirement and the advent of AM on the scene prompted a Sky disc to catch him all over the world.
MurraysWorld was soon added and the lovely thing is the site is not full of tennis freaks or youngsters, there is a delightful mix and it's fun.

Nice post Christmac, glad to see you are enjoying MW.  I have been posting for nearly a year now (it doesn't seem that long!) and like you, I have been made feel very welcome and part of the group.  I have three 'children'  all in their late thirties and five grandchildren four girls and one boy.  Unfortunately only one grandchild lives nearby so she is truly spoiled.  Two are on the other side of the world and the other two at the other end of the country.  Hope you continue to enjoy MW and don't be afraid to use the PM if you have any questions you don't want to share. hug

So is your husband from Iran then? Just wondering from the living over there and the name of your son Smile

Iris it's lovely to see you on here again. I'm lucky really as my three granchildren are just a couple of hours away and it has been good to see so much of them all the while they've been growing up. The eldest is 17 and taking her test next week. She will be taking maths at Uni - wherever she goes - and training to be teacher.

My ex husband is Iranian, we have been divorced since 1996. I enjoyed living in Iran during the Shah's reign and had a very privilege life, but had a violet man and it took some clever planning to get free.

Okay Smile Sounds like you've had an interesting (if not always happy) life. I hear of all the places so many people on here have been and hope that by the time I hit the same sort of stage lol in life then I'll have seen as many amazing things and had as fulfilling a life yes

Sounds a bit scary, Chris. I often wondered what Iran was like under the Shah - he looked a decent man and I wonder too what kind of statesman he would have made. Impressions however are often wrong and I'm sure you wouldn't want to be living there today.
