Gunman Kills 33 at US University

Quote

I am not sure that gun control would have prevented this from happening.  Maybe, maybe not.  Some people want to blame video games.  I don't buy it, but in a way, I could see it. Was this a suicide that evolved into a mass-killing because of guns and video games or was this guy really aiming for a mass-killing which inevitably ended in suicide?

And then I wonder, why is it that we have so many more suicides these days than we had had 40 years ago?  Guns were just as readily available back then?  Is it because of the medication?  Seems like all of these school shooters are taking SSRIs.  Is it a cultural thing?

Why is it always some white guy or some asian guy that goes on these shooting rampages?  In this country, blacks and latinos do most of the shooting, but it almost always in the context of some gang fight or some altercation or personal conflict.  With school or work suicide/shootings, it is always a white guy or an asian guy.

Gun control may not have prevented it. But in Virginia, most people have a gun in the house apparently, because it's so easy to get one. You do not even need a license!
The Korean maniac who did this went into a gun shop a few weeks ago with a credit card, and walked out with 2 guns. Just like that. A couple of weeks later, 33 innocent people are dead.
Perhaps banning the sale of guns, or tighter laws might not have prevented this event it's true, but it could certainly have been made a bit more difficult for these guns to have been acquired.

Still, someone has to be to blame for allowing him to be going on a rampage 2 hours after the initial 2 shootings. Why were classes still going on and students still coming to classes oblivious to the danger? The first email sent out just advised students to be cautious as there had been a "shooting incident," no mention of a double murder. More to the point, how many people even saw those emails during the day? I know I probably wouldn't have. I'd have been on the bus to uni, or studying or having lunch or something or even in a class. Why was he still going around with his guns 2 hours later? While perhaps the first 2 he killed (reportedly the former girlfriend and a student advisor/councellor) couldn't have been stopped, he certainly should not have still been around 2 hours later to kill 31 more people who had absolutely nothing to do with his grievance with the ex.

Heads must roll somewhere, whether it's in the University hierachy or the police or whatever. Someone has blood on their hands and must be made accountable IMO. How this went on for 2 hours and the Police were not there to find him immediately after the initial shootings is a disgrace.

The people in charge of that email need to be jailed, it's an absolute outrage.

Of course. Absolute disgrace that 2 hours after murdering 2 people, he was still roaming around the campus. People have to be made accountable for why he was allowed to do this. IMO the buck stops with that old git they keep showing on the news, the president of the campus or whatever his title is. He keeps saying he didn't believe there was any more danger etc. He's the first one who has to be partly blamed.

I mean, if you read an email saying there had been a "shooting incident" and which also implied there was no more danger, you might still turn up to class right?
But if you read that there was a double murder with the suspect as yet unidentified, you'd probably decide not to get on the bus or make your way to classes wouldn't you?

Exactly, it's like they wanted the students to face danger... at least give them the full details no

Maybe they didn't want to worry anyone too much Rolling Eyes

The police went looking for the wrong bloke. They were questioning the girl's current Bf when it was this guy who was obsessed with her that was wandering around campus with 80-100 rounds to pump into his fellow students.

Have you guys read any of the plays the killer wrote? They've been posted on AOL. The guy was clearly ******* nuts, and poor at creative writing.

It's just a snap in the head, it doesn't take someone who's crazy to do something like that.

Short circuit in the brain, I'm not saying it's an excuse at all, but it could happen to a lot of people. Just one moment of losing control.
