A clip going viral on China owned TikTok with a girl mentioning the camps as the second Holocaust.
Perfect
.
There's a brilliant BBC podcast called Beyond Today which
did an episode on this
. Really interesting, especially about how Chinese companies branching out into the West are finding the freedom of speech thing difficult to balance with Chinese censorship.

Looks like Facebook's Libra has some serious competition. Perhaps a better alternative that has already arrived.
Saga is stablecoin backed by bank deposits that are matched to the International Monetary Fund’s special drawing rights (SDR).

Some much needed good news. Pool little boy, another victim of the inadequacy of our mental health provision.

I thought when this story first broke that there was something rather odd about it, so does anyone else think there's more to this tragic story than just a 'simple accident' and that the matter should be investigated further? Admittedly we only have the family's word for it that all three could swim, but as the father was apparently 'a tall hefty man', you do wonder exactly what went on which the hotel owners might be trying to cover up.

^ I think it's very fishy and how could 3 people drown all together in a swimming pool when all three were well able to swim.
I think there should be further investigations.
It doesn't look like a simple accident - the hotel will be protecting themselves.

The latest news is that the Spanish police have closed the enquiry saying it was an unfortunate 'freak accident'. Well according to the dictionary a freak accident is "An incident, especially one that is harmful, occurring under highly unusual and unlikely circumstances", so I'd be interested to know just how they reached that conclusion. I can understand two of them drowning but not three, and that's where the real issue lies. Meanwhile I hope the family do pursue it further, although inevitably that will cost a lot of money.

^ I'll just reply to every post I see all over the forum ?
"A freak accident" is one which is totally unexpected - as in a freak accident caused by a tornado or a hurricane. A freak accident doesn't happen to swimmers on holiday in a hotel swimming pool.
The word "unfortunate" is unfortunate don't you think?
How can it be "unfortunate" that 3 people have drowned.
I also hope the family will pursue the matter further. It won't be easy though, the Spanish Police will stick to their guns (wrong choice of words)!!! but the Spanish Police will say the enquiry is now closed, for the rest of time.
What about our Foreign Office? They should try to help surely?

That's very good of you! lol
As far as I know all the Foreign Office can do is to offer families support when somebody dies abroad, like helping with transport home and providing translators.
Anyway I think this will be the end of the story because what nobody realised was that the deepest part of the pool was in the middle of it and that it didn't have the usual deep and shallow ends you'd expect to find in a British swimming pool. Surely though somebody might have had the wit to put a notice up to that effect for the benefit of holiday makers?

^ Even if the deepest part of the pool was in the middle, surely if you found yourself out of your depth and could actually swim, you'd keep swimming, maybe to the side.
I don't think you'd drown?
If you were in the sea and were out of your depth, you'd either continue to swim on, or you'd swim back to where it was shallower?
I think the family should continue their investigations.
If that's all the Foreign Office can do, it doesn't sound much!

^ Yes, but that depends on your swimming capabilities. I mean, I can swim in theory but one length of the pool and I'm done! I think the girls started to panic, the father tried to save them both but got dragged under in the process. Whatever, I doubt we'll hear any more about this.

Thanks. I read about that elsewhere as well. Seems there were at least two failings on the part of the hotel - "there should have been a lifeguard on duty and that signs indicating the depth of the pool could have been clearer." Also why didn't the woman who raised the alarm not use the walkie talkie she apparently had to summon help rather than run into the hotel shouting for it?

Yes there should have been a lifeguard on duty, but actually I don't think there are always lifeguards at pools here (i.e. some gyms don't have lifeguards)
The depth of the pool should have been made clearer, yes.
I don't know why the woman who raised the alarm didn't use the walkie talkie (if she had one).
I'm sorry I'm not being very helpful - I do think there are questions to answer.

Me too but I don't think there's much point in continuing with this discussion because really now there's nothing to discuss, and speculation is never very helpful!
