Clearly plots to hasten the Zombie apocalypse!
Or we could regress evolutionary and turn into fishes! -

A recent study found that the average human attention span has fallen from 12 seconds in 2000 (or around the time smartphones hit the scene) to eight seconds today. In comparison, scientists believe that the goldfish has an attention span of nine seconds.

I don't expect folk to read the lengthy article, a lot of which we know already,  but at last Harvey Weinstein has been brought to justice. yay  Hope he gets put behind bars for a very long time.

Anyone keeping up with the latest happenings in Syria?

Turkey there, dismantling the Assad war machine and grounding his airforce. Russia not bothered. Makes me mad. Ed Miliband and his supporters are responsible for untold deaths. A no fly zone by 2014 was easily achievable and would have saved hundreds of thousands of lives.

^ Unfortunately the goings on in other parts of the world with the exception of the US Presidential election have been largely buried by constant over-coverage of COVID-19,

In other news, the BBC has appointed Tim Davie, a spectacularly average, white, male, Conservative Party puppet, as its next Director-General. Davie has been appointed from within the BBC's own ranks - he's currently head of BBC Studios.

So, nothing new to see there....

Pretty catastrophic given that it took the  environment 25 years to start recovering after the Exxon Valdez incident in 1989 which was also in the Arctic Circle.

Having waded my way through JKR's somewhat rambling musings, all I can say is that if she's hoping to avoid yet another backlash on this 'toxic' subject, then she's probably wrong since it's been reported elsewhere in the media, including the sensationalist Daily Mail.  I've just heard it reported on BBC radio news this morning as well.

Also since she considers herself to be a trans activist, she would do well to read this article in The Spectator of 14 December 2019, written by Debbie Hayton, who is herself a trans woman - https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/trans-activists-are-making-life-harder-for-trans-people

I certainly don't agree with the proposed Gender Recognition Reform (Scotland) Bill - now put on hold because of the covid situation - which makes it easier for people who think they've been born as the wrong sex to change it.  It's bad enough that these people would no longer have to provide any medical documentation to support that claim, but even worse is the fact that they're lowering the age which allows them to do this from 18 to 16.  In addition applicants must have lived in their acquired gender for a minimum of 3 months (rather than the current 2 years) before submitting an application for gender recognition, although they do at least have a 3 month cooling off period in which they can change their minds.

PS - Apologies for the last para because I do realise that this was well and truly thrashed out on the forum two or three years ago, I think on the Off Topic thread.

I think you might have skipped over the letter too quickly. I think you are more on her side than against from what I can tell.

She is not a trans activist, her letter was defending herself against trans activists. She is against the Scottish bill and would likely find the article you posted agreeable.

To be honest I wasn't quite sure at the time just exactly what she was talking about, probably because I was unaware of what had been bubbling on Twitter recently, but reading it again a bit more carefully I see what you mean, and yes I am on her side.  Inevitably though the article has attracted a fair amount of criticism from some of the media because of her outspokenness.

This is rather sad really -

Dame Vera Lynn, the Forces' Sweetheart whose songs helped raise morale in World War Two, has died aged 103.
