A few days ago we had stabbings in Reading, now there's been the same in Glasgow.

"Man shot dead by police after stabbing in Glasgow hotel"

Six people are being treated in hospital for their injuries, including a police officer who was said to be "critical but stable".

Sources had earlier suggested two other people had died at the Park Inn in West George Street, which is currently being used to house asylum seekers.

Police said the incident was not being treated as terrorism.

What with these, illegal raves and pandemonium at the beaches, you do wonder just what this country is becoming.

^ I had that very conversation with my sister earlier, Aileen.  I’m not sure if it’s because we feel more affected due to the ongoing unsettled situation, and I’m sure it plays a part - BUT more and more things appear to be breaking down and resulting in really unacceptable behaviour.  I find it worrying too, as do many I speak to.

^ I don't doubt that the current situation has something to do with it, but I agree that law and order have been breaking down in this country for some years now while the police and the government seem to be unable to do anything much about it, which is worrying.  Even more concerning is the fact that this virus isn't going to go away probably until a vaccine is found, so if this type of behaviour is going to be the new norm, then God help us.

Inter-city train derails near Stonehaven in Aberdeenshire.

It wouldn't surprise me if the cause of the derailment was a result of the massive thunderstorms and torrneital rain which swept Scotland last night.  So far one death has been reported with several people suffering serious injuries.

Latest update from British Transport Police -

"Three people, including the driver, have been pronounced dead at the scene and six people have been taken to hospital, although their injuries aren't thought to be serious, with one person possibly missing.  Once the area has been made safe a thorough search will be made."

So not as bad as was feared , but still a terrible tragedy, and thankfully this service isn't usually a busy one and was probably even less busy than usual thanks to covid.  It isn't very clear from reports so far as to what actually happened but there's little doubt that last night's torrential rain played its part, which makes me wonder why the service was allowed to run at all.

^ Yes - thankfully not as bad as thought earlier.  As you say, Aileen - am sure the current Aberdeen lockdown saved many lives here.

So sad for families grieving tonight.  It must have been a terrifying ordeal for everyone involved.  I was also thinking about how many more lives would have been lost in normal times.  That train is normally heaving.

I've just read that the driver was married with three young children.  It's also believed but not confirmed that the train hit a landslide after travelling round a bend in the track.

So sad to read that Nicholas Lyndhurst's son Archie has died at the age of 19.

I cannot imagine the pain his parents are feeling.  I hope they are left in peace.
