This is a hard one Elly. The only advice I would give is to be true to yourself. It can be difficult, when i worked I told my work mates I was a Buddhist some looked at me as though I was mad. I did try to explain why I was a buddhist and in time they accepted me.

The only advice I would give is be true to yourself no point in lying as you could trip yourself up. Hope you get the job and you are comfortable in it.

Yeah - I struggle with it.  I don't mind whatever anyone believes, as long as they don't hurt others in the process.  Unfortunately, religion is highlighted so much these days and seems to have a negative impact.

Just wanted to run this by anyone on here who feel they have some advice.  So - I started a new job, well a trial for a new job.  It interests me and I think I'm more than capable of delivering what the company needs.  Here's the thing…  The company is run by a family who are of a particular 'religious' persuasion.  They don't throw this in your face, but their employee handbook does state that they abide by 'Christian Values' and they have pulled members of staff up for 'taking the Lord's name in vain' so, clearly, you have to mind your P's and Q's if you want to work with them.   Summary - good job, chances of making good, but does it sit well?

Dilemma for me, is that I like what they're about from an employee standpoint, but I'm not sure whether I've got it in me to toe a party line, or, indeed, to wonder what they'd do if a person who didn't follow a Christian Faith applied for a job with them.  It's one of those personal dilemmas.  Any views?
Without knowing the details of the job, I don't see that it should affect you directly, unless there is some prejudicial approach to customers that you are expected to exercise - e.g. discrimination against gays. I'm sure you'll work it out for yourself, so good luck!

I agree with Fiverings. If the extent of it is tutting at some blasphemy, where's the harm? I imagine if that if they truly uphold core Christian values, they'd be great people work for.  If they're actively discriminating against people because of their faith then it's ethically a bit more dubious.

Ultimately it comes down to what feels right for you. Some people can work in dubious industries like gambling and pornography, others are horrified by the idea.  We're all have different tolerances.

I think that's the burning question, is what feels right for me.  It may speak more volumes about me than it does about them, or perhaps I don't want to sell my soul to want to toe some party line,   I have a huge problem with authority when it makes no sense - - even I know that!  Very Happy

I know others have answered this, but I'm interested to know just exactly what their religious persuasion is because it does sound a very inflexible one (the JW's come immediately to mind).   Anyway I'd say go with it in the meantime, but if you don't feel comfortable once the trial period is coming to an end, then there's no point in trying to force yourself to continue.  Meanwhile I wish you the best of luck!

^ Just in case anyone thinks I ignored you Aileen, as we know we talked via PM.

Got my son's wedding coming up next month.  Big day!  Got my outfit etc., but was thinking I really need to get something done with my nails.  I don't have nice fingernails, but struggle with nail polish etc. as it makes me feel as if my nails can't breathe! .  Anyway, as I was thinking was reminded of these sketches.  Made me laugh!  lol

@Elly that made me laugh out loud.  I have my son's wedding in three and a half months time - no outfit yet as have lost 4 stone and want to lose another 2 before I go shopping - hitting the Gym tonight for the first time in ages  nervous

I am not a nail person either so appreciate your dilemma !!!

That's a pretty amazing weight loss, MM - good on you!  Don't know where you live in Aberdeen, but walking is a great option to the Gym.  A 5k walk every other day can do wonders!

Yeah - I'm a 'no frills' person.  Not to say I look like a bag lady, but the whole nail thing etc. stresses me out.  I tried an eyelash extension thing a few weeks back, and all I could see was an alien looking back at me in the mirror!

Think, I'll just go with what God gave me, aside from a wee tweak there and there!  Very Happy  Our boys will love us, whatever!

Walking is what I have  been doing started off walking to work one way n then both ways so that got me 5 mikes a day  then started going out at night to walk too - loads of great places in Aberdeen for walking.  Started it on the 7th Mach so giving myself a cut off of 7th October before finding an outfit.  Yes your right they will love us whatever - I'm very much a no frills person too and think I would look a bit odd if I suddenly did the whole "beauty" thing lol.

Bet you feel a lot better for the weight loss, as well.  Sometimes we just need an incentive to galvanise us into action.

Any ideas of what kind of outfit you fancy?  Is it a big wedding?  My son's is relatively small.

Loved the sketches!

I can sympathise about the nails because I felt the same, and if I did use the stuff it was always a pearl shade.  Really hate bright red nails, and even worse the black which seems to be so popular today because I associate that with witches.   I haven't used lipstick for years because I just don't like the feel of it on my lips, and fortunately my lips are a fairly healthy colour anyway.  I did wear it when I was younger but again preferred the paler shades.  So I agree, just go with what God gave you because you'll be loved anyway!

Just so long as you don't go near Trump's beloved golf course and answer a call of nature in the sand dunes. secret service agent lol

I'm glad you've managed to lose so much weight though, and with that sort of determination you should reach your goal.

Cripes - you'll be exhausted by the year end - not to mention lighter in the bank account!  Still - it's these occasions that are always special.

Queens of the understated is what we are, Aileen.  Smile  Bright nails, lips etc. seem to suit others, but just not for me either.  Not even when I was younger.
