@ Aileen These nurses are working in exceptional times. They have given their all in caring for very sick people. Yes, they have chosen to become nurses but in this pandemic, they have given well above what is expected from them.

I think you have been a bit harsh in your opinion. They deserve a pay rise Just take a look at Boris Johnson he has wasted more money in dishing out extortionate contracts to his tory buddies. I think it would be more appropriate to take a swipe at him as he thoroughly deserves it.

Fair enough but this pandemic isn't going to last forever - at least I hope not if the vaccines are successful - so perhaps another £500 reward would be more suitable.

I'm well aware of what Boris does, but that doesn't alter the fact that giving nurses a 4% pay rise, provided they actually accept it, is, as I said earlier, only going to cause trouble because other public sector workers will start demanding the same, possibly even threatening to go on strike if they don't get it - so can you imagine the chaos that will cause?

I agree but these are exceptional times. It is not just the nursing staff but all employees within the NHS Like porters, cleaners and people who work in the labs ect could go on to name other workers within the NHS.

It may well be that others will ask for a pay rise that will probably happen as food exports from the EU are going to go up in price. Most of us will probably have to pay more for our food and other things like electricity, gas and council tax they are going to happen and we can do nothing about it.

In fact, our pensions should be in line with inflation only the government can do that and from past experience that does not happen.

Seems unlikely. We've been out of the EU for three months and inflation remains very low.

Indeed, the contribution of food and non-alcoholic beverages to CPIH was negative in January and February, meaning food prices were decreasing.

Electricity, gas and fuel prices are also flat.

You are mistaken. The triple lock means that for the last 11 years, the state pension has increased by the higher of a) average earning growth b) inflation as measured by the CPI or c) 2.5%.

An independent Scotland wouldn't be able to afford that, and that's before we even consider the absolute carnage that'd happen if the Groat were re-introduced.

I had noticed that all the scaremongering about higher food prices if we left the EU hadn't materialised because my shopping bills have been the same for months now.

It certainly will!  It doesn't really surprise me anyway that he's trying to make yet another political comeback.

Not sure who this development favours, but I think we've discovered an actual flaw in the Holyrood voting system: a party can stand candidates for the list, but not the constituency list.

Not a lot of impact I would say - he has lost a lot of support he had previously - I’m on quite a lot of the Indy sites and support has severely diminished for him.   There will be the usual hard core fanatics that will “jump ship” but that’s about it.   Russia Today Presenter and guy with self confessed inappropriate behaviours - can’t see that appealing to the female electorate!!!!

Good point boogers.

I know quite a few Indy supporters who definitely won't be voting for him!  I think you're spot on about the female electorate as well so that should narrow the field quite a bit.

I will not be voting for him. I am an SNP supporter and he is no longer in the SNP. We have a great first minister who I am sure will have a very good election plan.

He may win a few seats but can't see him win many list seats.

LB - Alba aren't contesting any constituency seats.

Meanwhile the fist to jump ship is Eva Comrie who will stand as a candidate in Mid-Scotland and Fife for the Alba Party, having decided to back Salmond’s vision for Scotland.

Just had a look on Wings over Scotland - Lots of cock-a-hoop Salmondites seemingly happy to switch party allegiance without a second thought.

Comrie has some interesting explaining to do.

Been doing a bit of modelling. I reckon that if Alba get <5% of the vote share it's a net win for unionist parties. Any more than that, and it's a net win for independence parties.

There's some pretty vitriolic anti- SNP/Sturgeon stuff in there as well.

I think most people in the SNP and SNP supporters will vote for the SNP. Nicola Sturgeon has been a very good leader during this pandemic. Her daily reports on the TV have been very good to the extent that the tories complained she was getting too much time on TV.

So the tories managed to get a spot for their man who is totally useless. Apparently, he can't seem to make up his mind whether to stand again for Westminster again or try and get a seat in the Scottish Parliament. In the meantime, he had a daily spot on the covid report on TV which has now ceased because of the upcoming election.

I hope he gets neither as he seems to want the best of two worlds.
