Scottish politics

Quote

I have Irish relatives so I know the situation from both sides. My brother was in the British Army his wife's father was in the police in Ulster so I know full well about "the troubles" and have a foot in booth camps. It is time this situation was brought to an end.

As to you boogers you can rave on as much as you like but you are not going to change my mind about Scottish Independence. Mr. Johnson and the tories are only interested in keeping Scotland tied to the union at any cost that is not going to happen.

Aileen, it is the same outcome the Catholics were defeated, and the Protestants won and many Scots remained in Ulster.

Johnson is responsible for the problems in Ulster by his actions and not keeping to the agreement with the EU. When I came home from Australia I stayed with my sister-in-law until my husband remained in Australia to conclude some business. Her cousin came to visit from Ireland a few days after he arrived the police came to check on him and on us presumably. Until this mistrust ends and the two communities learn to live together the problems will continue.

By his actions, Johnson has stirred up all the old problems and the tensions between the two communities will continue. Perhaps it is time for them to come together and form a united Ireland I know the problems full well but to me, it is the solution.

Ireland will continue to be a pawn in the hands of a British Government until that happens.

No, it won't rankle because, unlike England, Scotland will welcome people who have chosen to make Scotland their home.

I'd say that that's a fairly unusual case, but you have made your point.  Smile

Yes, but as has been pointed out to LB before, the public in Scotland are pretty much as anti-immigration as the public in England.

@ Althusser:- You are not speaking for me I am not anti-immigration. I would be happy if more immigrants were allowed to settle in Scotland. The only time I have talked about workers coming from the EU was to state that I was sorry that EU workers were no longer coming to Scotland. They are not coming from Europe because of the UK government's policy on workers from the EU and the UK leaving the common market.

Because of the shortage of seasonal workers coming to Scotland, a lot of soft fruit has been left to rot in the fields.  What a waste

Gee, there's Littlebuddha, cross that the gross exploitation of young eastern European workers has been curtailed.

I don't know how much truth there is in this but it was originally reported in The Sunday Times -

"Wills and Kate to spend more time in Scotland ‘to save the Union’"

The report comes just days after the couple’s tour of Scotland in which William said the country was “so important” to himself and wife.

If workers from the EU felt they were being exploited they would not come to Scotland. They have been coming to Scotland for many years and have been made welcome.

Many have made Scotland their home and have become part of the community.

Yes Aileen it was in the papers yesterday William and Kate apparently to spend more time in Scotland. Whether it is their decision or a suggestion from the UK government is not known.

However, it looks like a political decision from the UK government that should not get the royal family involved in politics.

Not a problem for the SNP, who positively want a union of the crowns. Best take your worries to Nicola.

We will wait and see, the royal family should not be involved in politics whether it be Scotland, England or Wales, or Northern Ireland.

So much for the royals not being involved in politics.

Prince Charles was involved in them for years with his so-called "black spider" memos and letters to government members and politicians.
