£97k is what cash the SNP had on hand in 2019. Alongside the £600k in missing donations, the Police are also investigating the whereabouts of £400k in bequests.
Calling this "politically motivated" is a very serious allegation, Aileen...

Disappointing to see SNP supporters going the Trump/Johnson route on this.

I am not all that much of an SNP supporter these days but feel that there's an element of political stirring going on here aided and abetted by Police Scotland. For one thing, how can a sum of £600,000 just disappear without trace? £60 perhaps, but not that amount, and for another, why did the police see fit to ransack Sturgeon's house as well as, rather laughably, digging up their garden, an activity normally reserved for finding bodies and murder weapons?

There is an ongoing investigation, so hopefully answers will come from that in time. No need to throw in wild theories at this point.

Why is it awful because I'm prepared to believe that the police costs outstrip that of the lost money given the length of time they've been investigating it.

Bloody hell. Can you think of any other crimes for which the "cost" for the police to investigate outstrips the nominal cost of the actual crime?
Most rapes, murders, assaults for a start...

Why the swearing when I was effectively agreeing with you? The difference being that this crime, or fraud, doesn't quite equate with those other crimes.
And I still want to know why Alt thinks this announcement is so awful!

I was not agreeing with you.
The headline is bad because it implies that justice is contingent on the investigation costing less than the crime.

Rather saddened to hear of the somewhat untimely sudden death of Alex Salmond. Regardless of what you thought about him, you couldn't ignore him because he was a figure who was larger than life as well as being a consummate politician.
