"SNP's Deputy First Minister denies finances secrecy scandal after treasurer resigns"

"Douglas Chapman has claimed he was not given enough information to do the job and so 'resigned with immediate effect'"

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2021/05/30/snps-deputy-first-minister-denies-finances-secrecy-scandal-treasurer/

And now Johanna Cherry too has resigned from the SNP's National Executive Committee for the same reason.

A whole set of people voluntarily jumping - mmm....Shame we have such tired, ethically compromised governments in Holyrood and Westminster alike.

Unfortunately I don't see any alternative, at the moment anyway.

Simple answer I want Scotland to be an independent country and the SNP are the party that is the only one who will go for that. I have no interest in the monarchy whatsoever I think they are a waste of money that could be used for a better purpose.

No, it is not daft nonsense what was the big secret they had already tried to get rid of channel 4 reporters who were waiting outside Holyrood but Gordon Brown was spotted when he arrived. What was he trying to hide for if he had nothing to hide.

As to whether Scotland keeps the monarchy that will be up to the people of Scotland for me I don't think we need the monarchy I would like to see an elected President.

Also, the Queen gets money from the British Government for the upkeep of the royal palaces I believe she has a personal fortune I think the money from the UK government could be put to abetter use.

The Royal family should not be involved in politics at all but it is apparent that they are. I am afraid I don,t believe that they are impartial.

Not true though. The Scottish Greens want independence, but not the monarchy.

So all your ranting is best directed at yourself. You are the one promoting a party ready to let Andrew, Kate, Charles etc reign over an 'independent' Scotland. So if you have a problem with it, best lobby your comrades for a change rather than blame anyone else.

Usual rubbish from booger and Althusser not everyone in Scotland wants to retain the royal family as I have already said it would be better to have a president. A lot of money is spent on maintaining the royal palaces which could be spent on more essential things like education and health care. I could name many other things that the money could be spent on.

As to booger everyone who disagrees with him is a fascist I would say look at your own government, not a pretty sight where contracts are given to all in sundry. Money donated to the Tory party and contracts given to by the back door without any scrutiny.

I would say have a look at your own PM who seems to have taken no action against his own party members who have been given contracts right left and centre without any scrutiny for example PPE during the pandemic.

Of course, all that is ignored I would say look to your UK government that is quite happy to allow all these back door deals without any scrutiny. Your PM is a good example who seems unable to tell the difference between truth and lies.

No point you ranting at anyone on here about it though LB. You could have voted for a pro-independence, non-monarchist party, but instead you voted for the pro Royal SNP. In fact you are a member! - no one to blame but yourself really.

Baby steps, alt.     First free ourselves from Westminster then work on retiring the monarchy.

No need at all. You'd be establishing a new sovereign state, so no need to chain it to monarchy from the outset.

^   I know that but independence is what is most important.      Then we'll sort out what else we want.

"independence is most important" is unintentionally revealing. Screw all those people who'll be absolutely hammered by the consequences of independence, right? Frown

^ No thought about how the many who don't want independence will feel either.

But there is a prior need to be clear what being independent actually is i.e. constitutional principles - hence the SNPs support for the monarchy.

There's a prior need to be clear about everything, and so far it hasn't been forthcoming.
