The future of British politics

Quote

Not sure how anyone connected to the labour party could want to elect Long-Bailey.  My view is that as a mouthpiece for Corbyn she showed little qualities of original thought and the constant regurgitation of dogma rather than constructive ideas (there are many that were not) was extremely worrying. She was worse than Jeremy! I do think though she has the most chance although I would like to see Lisa Nandy as she would certainly change the approach in opposition. I suspect she is the only one of the remaining four who could agree things with the Conservatives after negotiating some adjustments. That is the way forward for Labour to get in the real world when in opposition so some of their good moral policies can be adapted to being capable of being adopted.

Nobody said Brexit was going to be easy, but it didn't take long for the EU bully boys to start jumping in with their threats! Rolling Eyes - https://www.france24.com/en/20200127-brexit-will-be-a-matter-of-damage-limitation-says-eu-s-chief-negotiator

Brexit will not be easy but the British Government deserves everything it gets. It has told downright lies to the public and has totally ignored the three devolved parliaments who again recently voted to remain.

When we talk about Britain we are in fact talking about England. The devolved nations are always going to be totally ignored as the populations of the other three nations is smaller than the population of England and are always going to be outvoted by England.

Therefore England is always going to win because it has a much bigger population and can ignore the wishes of the smaller nations within this so called UK.

The EU is correct to challenge Johnson he is a cheat and a liar and deserves everything that is thrown at him he is still lying about how easy it will be for the Northern Ireland to trade with the EU it won't he keeps say that trade with Northern Ireland will be frictionless it won't be. They will still have to fill in documentation for goods flowing between them and the UK as the UK will have left the EU.

There will still be problems with trade between the UK and the EU and long delays at the ports as these documents will have to be checked. As far as I am aware this will remain a problem and cause delays at the ports.

The UK government will have a year to fix out the problems that will occur all I can say is it will be a disaster and the loss of trade between Scotland,Wales, and Northern Ireland to the EU will affect these countries badly.

The Welsh voted to Leave

You'd probably be the first to complain if a Tory MP made that conflation.

Nope, because England isn't a singular political force, anymore than Scotland is. Plenty of situations where a majority of English MPs have voted for a bill but it has been defeated.

So does anyone remember Sturgeon telling us that we shouldn't judge success on GDP figures, but on well-being? She had a point, but, unfortunately, Scotland is going backwards compared to England. Wales is also sliding. Notably most of the components of the ranking are devolved, and the big backward movement has occurred post devolution. Funny that.

I guess that's what happens when you don't actually care about such things, and instead have a monomaniacal fixation with independence and the ability to avoid any sort of real scrutiny.

"Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland will have a say on future EU trade talks, Michael Gove said as he defended the UK Government’s decision to press ahead with Brexit despite the devolved administrations’ rejection of the Bill."

I would like to think to think that this will happen, but given the shoddy treatment the devolved governments have had over Brexit, can't say I'm all that optimistic.  True, they might let us talk just to appease us, but will they actually listen to what we have to say?

As I said I never expected Brexit to be easy, but it would be helpful if we could now see some fair play coming out of Westminster where these governments are concerned.

The distraction efforts persist of course (immigration etc). Will they miss this historic chance to advance?

30 seconds of that was more than enough for me!  Farage is a grade A pratt, always was and probably always will be,

This was a nice touch though...

It certainly was.  I don't think that many of the other MEPs understood what they were singing though!

It's funny how the term 'Global Warming' was suddenly changed to 'Climate Change' as soon as the Earth started to cool down....as it does of course, every Autumn!  Rolling Eyes

Right now, there are young people all over the globe who are being convinced that their world could end in 12 years....and it's just not true! I feel sorry for Greta. She suffers from Aspergers and attends a special needs school and she's being manipulated.
