It's a question of how you can distinguish yourself. A few of the others have allegations of some kind of financial shade etc against them, so she might be able to enter that ground more comfortably. All will say they want tax cuts, just differences on timing.

Mordaunt‘s video has got her into trouble already.
Not sure the leadership candidates actually know who they are attempting to appeal to at this point - seems to be a lot of talk about accelerating the vote and not putting it to the membership and just having the parliamentary party vote.
Was that what happened when May resigned and we ended up with BSB? Can’t remember…

No. Johnson and Hut went to the membership. May didn't, but only because Andrea Leadsom immolated herself.
I don't think there's any way of avoiding the membership phase without that happening again. The C&UP constitution would need to be changed, which'd take even longer than a vote.
What might well happen is the initial knockout phases will be accelerated, to get to the final two by recess.

Mordaunt video.
Strangely 'tourist board' in visuals, but with a (probably) wise focus on personal integrity. Better to run with this than the banal tax cuts banter etc.
I like the video and I always like "I vow to thee my country", having it in the background encouraged me to listen to all Penny Mordaunt's video, I might otherwise have only listened to half of what was said.
They all say they'll cut taxes but I don't know how they'll be able to do so.
(ATL says the Mordaunt video has got her into trouble, I don't know why it should have got her into trouble) ?

That video and its 'I vow to thee my country' wouldn't have looked out of place in the 1950s/early 60s when nearly everyone was jumping up and down about British patriotism, but now it just comes across as rather meaningless.
Mordaunt's video got her into trouble because in the original version it showed Britain's Jonnie Peacock overtaking convicted murderer Oscar Pistorius to win the 100m sprint in the London 2012 Paralympics and then being congratulated by Pistorius -
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10999881/Tory-leadership-hopeful-Penny-Mordaunt-REMOVES-grinning-killer-Oscar-Pistorius-campaign-video.html
Part of that clip still remains at 1:00 but you'd have to be very sharp-eyed indeed to notice both Pistorius and Peacock.
This has got her into trouble as well -
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10999369/Tory-leadership-contender-Penny-Mordaunt-hits-row-woke-stance-trans-rights.html
PS - For the avoidance of doubt I do not read the DM, but this what came up when I googled Mordaunt/trouble!

^ They don't seem to be wasting any time though, having changed the rules to suit themselves!
Conservative leadership timetable -
Tuesday 12 July - nominations to get on the ballot open, closing at 18.00 BST
Wednesday 13 July - first round of voting among Tory MPs
Thursday 14 July - likely date for second round of voting
Monday 18 July - likely date for third round of voting, if required
Thursday 21 July - deadline for deciding final two candidates
Monday 5 September - winner announced

It doesn't come across to me as "rather meaningless".

Fair enough. It's just that I can't be bothered with all this 'Land of Hope and Glory"/"Rule Britannia" sort of stuff given that Britain is no longer hopeful, glorious, or rules the waves!

The first two are purely subjective, but I'd say that the UK does still kind of rule the waves. The Royal Navy is right up there in terms of ****-em-up-ability. Nuclear hunter killer and SSBN subs, two aircraft carriers, Type 45... all good stuff.

Looks to be a bit of an effort to get rid of Mordaunt now. She's not quite what the Tory's are typically looking look for and used to. Might be a bit of a Blair moment for them.
