The future of British politics

The DUP are nutters. Into creationism and banning homosexuality and stuff like that.

Come on you two - the fact he was starting from such a low base just a few weeks back, with the media laughing at him and everyone saying that he would be wiped out, makes this a pretty good achievement. It will be interesting to see if the momentum can be sustained should there be another GE in a few months.

I didn't vote for Labour, but give the man a bit of credit.

He had a great campaign - its a sensational turnaround

Ah nice - you know me and my alt-right tendencies.

But seriously, do you think those particular far-right issues will be used in negotiations? I was assuming it would be other more important issues.

The fact Labour couldn't defeat May of all people shows how terrible Corbyn really is.

Hey BBH, do you think he got an additional boost because he was up against a woman? You said something similar about US elections so just wondering if it played a role here Think
No, got a boost because she fought such a poor campaign.
boogers: ? Labour's biggest share of the vote since halycion days of Blair, I think.

No, I expect they'll exert leverage to get money and projects for Northern Ireland. Who knows though, it's all up in the air. They've already said they won't work with Labour because of Corbyn's IRA history, so not sure where else it could go.

High Five for all Labour voters on here!

41% - back in the game.

What I most like is that the absurdly OTT attacks from the right wing press didn't work, or at least not enough

I see May is refusing to resign, saying that the country needs a period of stability and that she'll make sure that that happens.

And still lost, badly, to the worst Tory campaign in history. Yeah, he exceeded expectations, but it's like Trump: the bar was so bloody low to start with.

Get rid of him, replace with someone less vile, and Labour will canter to victory.

Agreed and Clinton also objectively fought one of the worst presidential campaigns in history but at the time you seemed to believe sexism played a big role in her losing. Just wondering if based on the same line of thinking you feel Corbyn did better partly because he's a man Wink

Well,if you promise anyone and everyone a land flowing with milk and honey because you think there is absolutely no chance of being elected, of course, you will garner support from certain quarters.  Corbyn would have been ******** himself had he found himself as PM this morning because he knows full well there is no way he could deliver on his manifesto.

May apparently has the informal backing of the DUP. So looks like Tory minority government is on.

This is going to be very interesting, and I suspect very very bad in terms of Brexit.

Why? I thought it meant a softer Brexit was more likely.

Mark: Didn't Trump play the anti-woman card? If so, then yes, everyday sexism would've played a part. I know he called her an "old woman" at one point. Lol coming from him!
But of course Jezza didn't personalise his campaign like that, so again I'd say no. Being a woman never harmed Thatcher after all.

I'm not sure that it does - Labour are pro hard-brexit, and the swivel-eyed loons in the Tory party are as well. So the majority vote is for something hard and unpleasant.

Having said that, I could be wrong and if it does result in a softer Brexit, I'd bank it right now.
