The future of British politics

Quote

I feel the country get what they deserve. Theresa May was actually let down by her party as they did very little to help her. The young were actually being selfish in there voting as the promise of no tuition fees was all that concerned them. The real future meant nothing to them. The university's will struggle which is why Labour introduced them in the first place. Fees will probably go up for foreign students who will then go elsewhere. I had visions of Cornyn, McDonnell and Abbott sitting in the House of Commons dining room having tea with ISIS.

Right, what have we learned?

The Tories and DUP have enough seats to form a coalition government. The DUP are right wing nutters, so that's not good.

May, Hill and Timothy ran a bad campaign.

The Tories have their highest share of the vote for decades, but Labour also took a high share as well

Corbyn won 29 more seats. Better than expectations obviously, but still shit. Labour far behind.

SNP lost out big time. Scots apparently quite like the Tories and Labour. IndyRef2 is ******.

Not a dream.  But not so good for Labour as Id hoped. How ironic that Scotland has handed a slim majority to the Tories, however.
Sorry about Clegg, even tho Labour gain.
But a hung Parliament so much better than tory landslide predicted 4 weeks ago.

That remains to be seen. It'll be interesting at least...

If Corbyn does by any chance become Prime Minister the country has had it. Once again we will have free movement and a single market and once again be one of the EU puppets. It is all very well saying he supports Brexit but he will still kowtow to Brussels.
My OH and I will be okay with a Labour government but felt that the future of our children and grandchildren would be at stake. Within less than 2 years we will be bankrupt. In 2010 our debt stood at 109 billion. It is now 60 billion. Labour have always be hopeless with money. They are delusional that more would come from taxes as every governments has tried to get more taxes from the rich. It will take over a year for any of the tax revenue to drip in. I give up. We were laughing at the Americans but we are as bad. Taken in by a promises merchant with no substance.

Also - you what? Borrowing might be going down, but the national debt has continued to rise over the course of the Coalition and now the last Tory majority government:

A Tory  landslide would've been a disaster for democracy.
This is an overwhelming vote of confidence for Jezza and the kind of campaign that he fought. If only those MPs who wanted to tear him to pieces had kept their thoughts and back stabbing deeds to themselves, what he could've he achieved.
Also a welcome kick in the teeth for the rabid right wing press.

The SNP hold North Fife with a majority of 2 - surely must be the narrowest majority ever recorded!

HAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHA

Salmond loses his seat to a Tory.

Best result of the night.

Couldn't happen to a nicer chap!

Lol. How is this an overwhelming vote of confidence for Corbyn? What a ridiculous statement! He lost even worse than the Tories, running on a platform of spaffing money on everything for everyone.

Just imagine how Labour could have done if they hadn't chosen a stupid, anti-British marxist with poor taste in friends as leader! doh

The fact Labour couldn't defeat May of all people shows how terrible Corbyn really is.

Hey BBH, do you think he got an additional boost because he was up against a woman? You said something similar about US elections so just wondering if it played a role here Think

Come on you two - the fact he was starting from such a low base just a few weeks back, with the media laughing at him and everyone saying that he would be wiped out, makes this a pretty good achievement. It will be interesting to see if the momentum can be sustained should there be another GE in a few months.

I didn't vote for Labour, but give the man a bit of credit.

Sure, he deserves credit for doing about as well as Gordon Brown did in 2010, but it's not exactly an overwhelming vote of confidence, and the hyperbole is completely misplaced.

Cons+DUP is sounding ok to my untrained ears. May's ego being damaged + her party not being pulled to the left + soft Brexit.

I assume I'm missing something?
