Why don't MPs get maternity leave, or do they get it these days.
According to Ruth Evans, the Chairwoman of IPSA, "Members of Parliament are paid in full while on maternity, paternity or adoption leave. They receive a full salary from the day they are elected until the day they leave parliament."
Unfortunately though maternity cover is not paid for, a situation which IPSA is striving to resolve, although how anyone can cover for an MP I wouldn't know, but perhaps they can appoint another politician who isn't already an MP to deputise for them.

Yes well we do need a strong leader of the Opposition.
I agree with that even though I see no point in the current Labour Party.
Blair destroyed any faint link with looking after the less fortunate in the working classes and trying to achieve a more equal society. I anticipate some talk later of another attempt at a Lib/Lab coalition for those who want rid of the Conservatives.

Well they can't leave the Tories to run riot on their own! Hopefully Starmer, assuming he is elected leader, can at least pull the Labour party together, something which would be a start on its way to recovery.

^ Perhaps. I tend to prefer those with an ability to work with others of different views to get better solutions. Lisa Nandy has more of those abilities than Starmer and Long-Bailey seems to have none so I expect it to be Starmer that will be elected as the least risky option.
Not sure if he has the personality though to inspire the young to vote Labour which is what is needed to get enough votes to challenge for power next time.

^ I agree with you about Starmer MA particularly as Nandy would have got my vote had I been in a position to do so.

I don't see the point in thinking that there isn't any point in the current Labour Party.
If we elect a strong leader, such as Starmer, the party will have someone to follow and the country will get behind Labour again. Rebecca Long-Bailey might be a strong leader too, she might be quite good.
It wouldn't be right to brush Labour aside, I think they could do well but it takes time to pick up from the last election.
(I know people in real life who haven't even heard of the labour leader candidates). If people haven't even heard of them then I do wonder whether I'm right in thinking Labour might pick up …
Yes I suppose there could be thoughts of a Lib/Lab coalition.

I see Bojo is to marry his pregnant bidie-in. With his track record I wish her luck!

Yes - I don't know how he found the time?
"bidie -in" is Scottish? It means bride --- in situ" or something?
He already has 4 children, do they live with their mother(s).
What are the names of these children?
(He must have thought he'd better tell us about this future marriage I suppose)

Maybe he's a quick in and out merchant?
(Sorry for the crudity but that's what they were called back in my day)

Nearly right. A bidie-in is a long-term live-in sexual partner.

Inquisition time again. lol Anyway here's everything you want to know courtesy of The Sun -

Also in addition to the 4 + 1, Bojo is believed to have fathered at least one other child outside of marriage. Love the names though - can you imagine being called Lara Lettice or Cassie Peaches?

Definitely. I know unmarried couples having kids is nothing unusual these days but you'd expect a man in his position to do the decent thing and marry her, once his divorce is finalised that is.

Oh Aileen ! really lol
Oh well I always like you to do the work - re names of children and cricket and things.
We used to have a dog (!) called Lara - which was after Lara in Dr Zhivago. Actually the dog's name was Lassie which was sort of short for Lara.
Cassie Peaches? That's unusual!
I thought he was going to marry her, after his divorce is finalised?

He is, which is what I meant in my post, or maybe I didn't make that clear enough.
Lara is quite nice, but it's the Lettice along with it that I find amusing.
As for Cassie Peaches it sounds like something you'd find on a supermarket shelf!

How many children do we not know about. This just proves the point he has no morals at all. Wonder how long this relationship will last.
His relationship are a bit like his politics they don't seem to last that long. How could any woman with half a brain think that this would last for any length of time.
Wonder how he would manage if he was poor and did not get any child benefit or tax credits for this child. Apparently his tally is now 5 or 6 not a good sign to families who have more than two children who do not get benefit for these children.
A good example of do what I say and not as I do.

Who cares? It's none of our business. There are far more important things to be criticising Johnson for than his private life.
(it's also a bit of a danger area for you zoomers, given the allegations about Sturgeon!
