U.S. Presidential Election 2016

Quote

How come Trump was fine with Fake News when it came to Obama's birth certificate. But now, not so much..
Indeed. This story doesn't appear to warrant much air time - editor of Buzzfeed says there are serious doubts over it and CNN have now said it was irresponsible for Buzzfeed to publish it. But you have to say, this is just Trump getting a bit of his own medicine so not much sympathy coming from me.

It appears that some FBI employees are very anti-Hillary and it's likely there are some within the intelligence services that are very anti-Trump because they might feel he undermines their work against Russia. So it seems sensible to be wary of reports based on unverified leaks.

They're probably anti-Trump because he's a complete cretin who's busy undermining everything. I still can't believe you think this orange sack of incompetence and lies was the better candidate. doh

On the watersports fun, according to the BBC the allegations are credible - and not just based on the Buzzfeed report. Oh - and the report itself was considered credible enough to be given to Obama, Congressional leaders and Trump himself.

Do you have any torrented Hentai for us to watch instead? Little tongue man

Hentai isn't my thing, and anyway your God Emperor's Attorney General pick wants to ban it. Not that we'd be able to torrent it, given Trumps position on net neutrality.

This is fun.

I'm going to need someone to explain to me again why I shouldn't call Trump voters idiots. The evidence of the last 24 hours - including the start of the ACA repeal process - is pretty persuasive.

Maybe because they didn't want WW3 which Obama is doing his best to start right now before Trump ruins the plan. He's just moved hundreds of tanks, missiles and thousands of troops into Poland!

You're a Trump supporter... lol

Anyway, this is a NATO operation that's been planned for a while and at the request of several Eastern European countries - as a response to Russian aggression in the same part of the world. You'll notice that the UK is also involved, with 800 troops stationed in Estonia.

It's not wanting WW3, it's honouring treaty commitments and standing by our allies. Are you willing to criticise Russian involvement in Ukraine?

I'm an 'anyone but Clinton' supporter and why is Obama ordering such a vast movement of military... days before he leaves office? Yes....of course I know the UK is involved. Our PM has agreed to 'increase' the budget to the EU Military Defence Union, while announcing further cuts to our own, including cuts to our Royal Marines! I expect to hear any day now, that we are joining the EU Military Defence Union (the one you said would never exist) any day now! In fact, I wouldn't be at all surprised if we haven't already joined!

Yes, yes, we know you've drunk deep from the alt-right well of Clinton conspiracy theories.

He isn't. This was agreed in July last year. It's not a vast movement either - 3.5k troops, <100 MBT's.

You could certainly make a claim that both sides are provoking potentially dangerous escalation, but I guess the alt-right sites you feed on aren't telling that side of the story.

The UK defence budget went up in real terms last year, and will continue to do so for the rest of this parliament:

Quote
In last summer’s Budget the government committed to increase defence spending by 0.5% above inflation every year until 2021 and continue to meet NATO’s target to spend 2% of GDP on defence for the rest of the decade.

Modern weapons systems are incredibly expensive. In the next decade or so the UK will field two new super-carriers, four F-35 squadrons, block upgrades to the Typhoon fleet (Meteor and Stormshadow missiles, CAPTO AESA radar), a new Trident submarine fleet and new new Type 26 Frigate fleet.

Gone are the days of a huge standing army.

Given what the Orange Turd is doing over in the States, strengthened defence cooperation with our European allies seems like a really good idea. I also didn't say it would "never exist", merely that the UK would have a choice in whether it joins or not. This remains true.

On NATO, this popped up on Twitter.

Do you think it's unreasonable for NATO to station troops in allied countries (at their request) to counter the Russian buildup?
