You could certainly make a claim that

Yes....of course I know the UK is involved. Our PM has agreed to 'increase' the budget to the EU Military Defence Union, while announcing further cuts to our own, including cuts to our Royal Marines!

Modern weapons systems are incredibly expensive. In the next decade or so the UK will field two new super-carriers, four F-35 squadrons, block upgrades to the Typhoon fleet (Meteor and Stormshadow missiles, CAPTO AESA radar), a new Trident submarine fleet and new new Type 26 Frigate fleet.
Gone are the days of a huge standing army.
I expect to hear any day now, that we are joining the EU Military Defence Union (the one you said would never exist) any day now! In fact, I wouldn't be at all surprised if we haven't already joined!
Given what the Orange Turd is doing over in the States, strengthened defence cooperation with our European allies seems like a really good idea. I also didn't say it would "never exist", merely that the UK would have a choice in whether it joins or not. This remains true.
