Remarkable speech in the circumstances. Sad to think what we've just lost.
We had to wait a while for it - and I understand the reasons why it wasn't delivered last night - but it did not disappoint.
I'm split between being desperately sad about this result, and being selfishly relieved I do not live in the US. My friends in the US are in shock, and it seems each of them know someone who voted for this presidency.

Me too, Phil.
I honestly want to understand the Trump support.
well linda this will give you a clue.he is for traditional marriage,no more baby murders, good trade deals.no more deals with iran cleaning the swamp in washinton of elites and big money people, getting rid of the specail interest people, putting the coal miners back to work restoring jobs to the inner cities, better schools no more comman core tripe. Now that will take some doing but we believe its doable. This had not been meanioned but thousands of evangelicals have been praying and fasting asking God to be merciful.

Thanks!
I'd love to see if any country just straight out reflects percentage of votes with percentage of seats/balance of power. There must be some somewhere (outside of one party states of course!)?
Israel has such a system, with one caveat that parties have to win at least 3.25% of the vote. And even that used to be much lower.

Yup. He's against human rights.

good trade deals
Could you point me at an example of a good Trump trade deal? Everything I've read suggests that his positions on international trade are very bad, and likely to cause significant economic damage.
Quote
no more deals with iran
Can you tell me why this is a good thing? I thought the negotiated settlement with Iran de-escalated the chance of a nuclear conflict in the middle east. Binning that deal is likely to result in Iran kicking their nuclear programmes back into high gear, and risks a nuclear conflict with Israel.

He has some reasonable policies here, it's true.

putting the coal miners back to work
Do you think doubling down on coal is a good thing? It seems like it's an environmental catastrophe waiting to happen.
Quote
restoring jobs to the inner cities
Can you show me an actual policy about this? It's the first time I've heard it mentioned.

better schools
Can you show me an actual policy about this?

Doesn't seem very relevant.

New York is a weird place today. It's like someone just died.

Sounds like Trump may have a magic wand. Pity he uses it to rape women. Mirror, mirror on the wall - who's the fairest of them all?

Thanks for your response. I have to be honest and say I have vastly oppositional views, but this has given me a good insight.

I heard it compared to another date, except back-to-front (won't post it..can't bring myself to, but I'm sure folks will figure it out.)

Sobering thought indeed. The Germans apparently know it as Schickelstag - The Day of Fate. Don't ask me why.

For a start, I do believe that underneath it all he is a human being, and also I would sincerely hope that he back-peddles on the worst of his excesses, including that of exclusion.
A person's human qualities should be out there, not underneath it all. If you haven't got there by the age of 70, then it's not happening.
Who's going to build the wall - and who will pay?"
