Murray, you're a star

Quote

'Some citizens of this country, who take the opinion of tabloid newspapers and who are unable to form their own, have since found it difficult to like Murray. As a naive teenager, Murray tried to be funny with the media and got his fingers burnt. I can see exactly why Murray doesn't give them anything exciting to talk about. Again, I would be the exact same'

Please help me understand what you're saying here because I must be mistaken. It reads to me that Murray made a highly racist comment but its okay because he was young, or worse yet, joking?
I am a fan of Murray and we all make mistakes, but do not try and defend the indefensible. In addition please do not label those who hold the view racism and discrimination is wrong as 'unable to form their own' opinions. Should the Sun state the world is round should we choose to abandon such a view because it has come from a tabloid? Simply no.
There is no place for racism nor discrimination in modern society, and those who try to justify them are equally as guilty, if not worse, as those who made the initial comments. In short Racism in not 'funny' and should not be treated as such.

Such a shoddy and misplaced paragraph has sullied this column. That and what seems a completely unjustified and unsupported attack on Federer. Has Federer openly criticized his opponents? Has he not been humble in victory? Has he too not shed a tear at victory?
In fact, upon reflection of this column perhaps you are rather 'arrogant and far from genuine' yourself...

Sorry SE but I doubt if I could even make you understand that today is Saturday!!!    I suppose you refer to Andy's joke about not supporting England.     That cannot
be a racist comment anyway - English is not a race but a nationality.     As for the Fed - Yes he HAS openly criticised his opponents and also his fellow Swiss and doubles partner - he DID appear humble in victory but rather less then gracious in defeat, and yes he cried when he won the Oz Open but I'm not sure what that proves.   No way are you an  Andy Murray fan.    You're not smart enough.

Welcome to this exclusive Murray Forum! What a touching poem, it brought tears to my eyes and I hope Andy gets to read this after the match.
You should send it to him in the post. Smile

I am English, a tennis fan, and have followed Andy Murray's career since he was a junior. I have been ridiculed for constantly saying that A.M. would win not only a Grand Slam, but Wimbledon. When he got to the US Open final, I told the world he would win (I still feel he would have if the draw had been kinder to him). I'll be cheering him on, win or lose, and will lap up his success tomorrow or, if necessary, wait until he wins not just one Major, but many. He is Scottish, so it will be a Scottish success; I have no gripes with that. Finally, though, I want him to win because he is good enoough to win. I saw Lendl at Wimbledon in the early 80s; he was mean and magnificent and tomorrow will be another opportunity for him to finally achieve a Wimbledon title, via Andy Murray. Good Luck, Andy. SE, You have sullied this fine column, with YOUR comments.
There is no attack on Federer here, just a personal opinion that has been expressed. People may agree, or differ.

Andy is no racist and FYI "race" is defined as:
The major divisions of humankind, having distinct physical characteristics: people of all races, colours, and creeds.

The peoples in the British Isles are black, oriental, white, asian etc, etc. That includes all the peoples of Britain, including the Scots. The England football team has black and white players.
Even if he did make a comment about not wanting the England football team to win, it could not be considered racist!

You sound like a bigot and are not a true Andy Murray fan.

You're not a Murray fan, you're a Federer fan.

And I tell you what, for the pathetic attempt to label Murray's 2006 comment as racist, you're a ******* idiot too.
