For those having trouble with full screen Sky Go, I was too. Switched from Firefox to IE (yes, I felt dirty too) and it's working fine.

In other news, Andrew of the Murrays looking ok so far.

Never crossed my mind... I think that's certainly a very far fetched theory, how well did they know each other in Q4 2009?

I'll admit it's unlikely, but it's definitely not inconceivable.

If nothing else, they were both at all four slams in 2009 and the British tennis representation at those events is small. So I imagine they'd have at least talked a few times. Was Kim at all the slams with Andy last year? I can't remember.

If Andy and Laura did want to kick something off, then clearly Andy would want to end one well before publicly starting the other for PR reasons...

Am I the only one wondering whether Laura had anything to do with the Andy/Kim split?

5  General Community / Andy Talk / Re: Ranking next week... on: January 29, 2010, 07:23 am
It becomes of little importance whether he ends the year as #2, #3 or #4th ranked as long as he gets at least 1 GS to his name.

Media and public focus tends to be almost entirely on winning slams, but I'd say a #1 ranking would be as important as winning a slam (yes, I know you said #2, 3 or 4, so I'm not quite disagreeing with you). I expect the next year or two to see a flux in the heirarchy with Fed on the way out and Nadal, Djok, Murray and Del Potro battling it out to replace him. If he's going to add the 'former world #1' tag to his name, this year could be his best chance.

And certainly those players that have won 1 slam and been world #1 tend to be rated far higher than those that haven't been world #1. Roddick, Ferrero, Ivanisevic > Gaudio, Costa, Johansson.

Plus, on a personal note, I rate the achievement far higher. Being the best player in the world on every surface over a 12 month period > being the best player in the world on one surface over a 2 week period.

Good report, very nice.

By the fifth game, neither man had even half a sniff of a break.

I could have sworn Andy had Cilic at 15-40 on his first service game?  confused

Wouldn't be the first time I'd imagined something though.

Nadal down to number four in the rankings, right?
Correct.

Andy's second GS final. Who would you prefer he plays in the final? Personally I would choose Tsonga, after a 5 set match against Fed. But I really fancy his chances against either of them.

Yeah, if he can keep his game at the level it's been the last couple of matches he's got a great chance against anyone. He's had difficulty in the past repeatedly raising his game, so I'm not that confident.

Whoever wins out of Fed/Tsonga it's a great chance to gain revenge though.

Today's shot was better, the Gasquet one was more important in the context of the match.

Good interview from Andy, so much more comfortable than he was a couple of years ago.

Cilic has had a couple of lucky netcords as well on big points. Tight match so far but Andy's playing reasonably well and I expect him to come back and win.
11  General Community / Andy Talk / Murray on Bloomberg's power 100 on: January 28, 2010, 12:44 am
Bloomberg.com has published a list of the 100 most influential sports stars in the US in terms of their potential marketing revenue. Andy comes in at number 86 (not far behind Roddick at 79), which speaks volumes for his growing popularity across the pond.

Not bad given that the list is predictably dominated by baseball, basketball and 'football'!

Confidence is, generally speaking, charismatic. Unless you're a tool.

When he's focussed on the game, the brakes come off and the charisma comes out. When he's not, he's introverted and uncharismatic. Also, he's physically much more charismatic than verbally.

Andy comes across as one of the most charismatic on court and one of the least charismatic off court. It's an interesting dichotomy.
14  General Community / Andy Talk / Re: Cincy SF: Murray v Federer on: August 22, 2009, 04:47 pm
Andy's aiming to reach his 6th final in the last 7 hard court Masters 1000 events; Fed's aiming to reach his 1st in the last 11.

Should be a good match. Andy in 3.
15  General Community / Andy Talk / Re: Ranking next week... on: August 16, 2009, 10:11 am
Andy and Fed have been neck and neck the whole way up the rankings in terms of 'youngest to be ranked x' terms; Fed was slightly ahead until they hit the top 25, then Murray was slightly ahead until they hit the top 3.

I think that if Andy wins today, then wins next week, then wins the US Open then he's guaranteed to hit number 1 on 14/09/2009, which would be 41 days younger than Fed was? (Assuming Fed doesn't enter New Haven, which he won't.) (And obviously that's a big if.)
