General Community / Andy Talk / Re: Washington R3: Andy Murray vs Taylor Fritz

The Tsitsipas match may well have been Murray's if the match started 20 minutes earlier and they then didn't have to come off court at 20 to 11, but that's what happened. It was still a great chance to win the match on the Friday though.
I would rather Murray had another 45 points for the rankings and another match today than be out this tournament and thinking about next week now.
He beat Sonego in their only meeting in the first round in Doha this year by winning a third set tiebreak 7-4. Let's hope the same thing can happen again and he can go on another proper run in a tournament just like that one.

In Toronto, he's playing Lorenzo Sonego with a possible second round match against Felix Auger Aliassime or a qualifier. In the live rankings Sonego is 39 and Murray is 40.
What a chance to get a win against a Top 10 player that was tonight. Back to back tournaments where he's let Tsitsipas and now Fritz comeback and win when he had very good/great positions in both matches.
8 sets of Tennis and Murray broke twice in those matches, first game of the 3rd set against Tsitsipas and in the 10th game of the first set tonight. That's ultimately why he's lost both in my view, not enough key return points being won. Not getting the break in the 4th set against Tsitsipas at 4-4 and not getting 4-2 up tonight in the 3rd set or not breaking back for 5-5.

It was the type of match he would play in a first round of a 250/500 level tournament a few years ago. Not the best performance but one that gets the job done without too much drama going to a third set or a tiebreak.
Matteo Viola from Italy who is currently ranked 240 as Aileen posted above.

The match between Stakhovsky and Petrovic is in the 3rd set, tied at 5-5. The Murray vs Gombos match should be on after the finish of that one. There is a medical timeout for one of the players according to flash scores. The ATP website isn't showing the Stakhovsky vs Petrovic match for some reason.

Sandgren has won 10 matches and lost 14 on the ATP Tour this year.
He's won a title, in January at the Auckland 250 tournament winning in straight sets in every match. He's won 11 matches out of 16 in 5 Challenger tournaments.
His recent form on hard court is first match defeats in his last 3 events. Karlovic in the Cincinnati qualifiers as well as first round defeats to Taro Daniel in Los Cabos and Radu Albot in Atlanta.

I don't know if Amazon Prime cover every court as I don't have that or Tennis TV. I'll just be following it on the ATP website through their live score service. Last week in Montreal was a bit of a disappointment against Chardy and Martin after the great start in the first set and being up 4-1 and 6-4 in the match tie break. They have to be more clinical like they were at Queens when in those type of situations and win it by whatever score.

I've just heard and read that Sky Sports won't be covering the US open this year. It looks like Eurosport will have exclusive rights now. In previous years Sky Sports have sub-licenced the rights from Eurosport.
