For me this is the final.  The other side of the drawer was too easy.  Not sure if Andy can pull a win out of the bag but has anyone noticed Sunday is the 7th. 

I'm sure you heard the interview where Andy said he would be flying to IW tomorrow.

So Andy regains the number 4 ranking. He is a mere 10 points ahead of Nishikori and 250 behind Nadal.

James is flying to IW with Andy. Great for him as he said Andy is so supportive.  Hope the knee is good. 

Hope they do hold the next match in Glasgow too,  can't  top that atmosphere.

Absolutely.   Want to transport the whole crowd to wimbledon to teach my fellow southerners how it should be done.  Had a fantastic weekend been made so welcome by everyone from the cabbie on thurs night to the guy in the restaurant tonight.  Great city great people and great tennis in an amazing atmosphere.  Thanks Glasgow.  (Oh and Andy and the gang of course). 

 

With Ferrer winning in Acapulco last night Nishikori remains 4 in the rankings but is a mere 45 points ahead of Andy in 5. My understanding is that Andy can take back the number 4 spot with two singles wins in the Davis Cup tie vs USA.

Andy isn't currently counting 2014's DC towards his points - at the moment he has 65 from the tie with Italy - but I think that his Glasgow points would get added to the 65 and the DC points will go back into the mix.

Looking at Nishikori's ranking breakdown I think that even if he gets points in Japan's tie vs Canada (no reason to think he won't) he can't add anything from DC because all his 'other countable tournaments' slots are taken and his lowest points are 90 each from Washington and Halle. Only 80 singles points up for grabs in Davis Cup next weekend.

Ferrer goes up to 8 and Berdych drops to 9 (195) points separate them.

 

Flying up with my daughter thurs night.  Can't wait. Love DC atmosphere and seeing Andy play is a definate bonus.

Well he does play in the Davis Cup next weekend, and you can bet your life he'll perform well, as he usually does when playing for his country.  Shame that he can't seem to keep on doing it for himself on a regular basis, except in Slams.

Well Aileen I will be there next weekend and any loss of focus or lack of interest I may be forced to go down and give him a savere talking too!   

Andy is a nice person who is good no fantastic at his job but he isn't perfect. He wasn't happy during the pospisal match and I don't think it was himself he was necessarily unhappy with and no Aileen I don't think he was play-acting it's not his style.  I think there were issues outside of his game and as we saw against Dimitrov at Wimbledon he can't play through it.  Anyhow whatever it was he protected his points and left.  I hope for Simons sake he doesn't think he will beat Andy next time they play.  Onwards and upwards.

Clear as day tank. Of course people here will disagree but i don't really care. I called this before the tournament. He wouldn't have bothered playing a tournament so soon but honoured his commitments. I said he would play a few matches and that would be it. Add Berdych as his next opponent and it's clear he had no fight in him to even try his hardest.

Before people get on my back about tanking = losing on purpose. That's not exactly what it implies. It implies a player is prepared to play at 50% of his level, if it's good enough to win then fine. But if it isn't then so what. It was clear watching that match that he was never prepared to rally against Simon today, he was instead trying to be overly aggresive and missing his marks.

Also watched the match against pospisal this morning and wasn't convinced Andy was playing very well/trying very hard during that match.  Kept mumbling about "every time I play" not sure what is was about but he clearly wasn't happy.  I wasn't surprised though how today's match went as he started it in much the same vein.  I do think it was a tank. 

Sincerely hope that was a tank.
