49  General Community / Tennis Talk / John McEnroe was the greatest all round player of the Open Era on: April 14, 2009, 10:57 am
All the talk of Federer being the GOAT or that one day Nadal will overtake him.  My favourite player has always been McEnroe his stats speak for themselves.  He played and beat the likes of Borg, Lendl, Connors.  He was equally as good at singles and doubles winning slams in both in the same year.  Most modern players (unless they are specialist)  view doubles as a serious option once you are to old for singles.  He had a great passion and belief in himself which is great to see in Andy.  I am also a great fan of the fast volleying tennis he played I hate matches that are just slugged out from the back of the court.  A summary of his main stats area below.

Career Summary
Captured an Open Era record 155 singles and doubles titles during his career (77 singles, 78 doubles)
17 Grand Slam crowns (seven singles, nine doubles, one mixed)
Ranked 170 weeks at No. 1 in singles (fifth-best)
all-time record 270 weeks at No. 1 in doubles

I think we have to be careful not to overhype and put too much pressure on Laura Robson, she is a precocious player and has great potential, however becoming number 1 in Junior tennis doesn't mean that you will raise to the same position in the senior circuit.

There are a great many players who have done great on the junior circuit and have disappeared into obscurity.  Having said all that I do wish Laura Robson the best and hope that in a few years time she will be in the top Ranks of senor Womens tennis.

I'm afraid your Facebook group is a waste of time, no one will get in Google's way on delivering this service. When they launch something like this, nothing gets in their way.

you are prob right but if every body gave up and didn't try to get support about an issue they cared about then nothing would change in this world.  But there is nothing wrong in trying.

I do not believe that technology means I have to give up the right to privacy.   I am not a google hater I use their maps all the time to find places even have a gmail email address.  I just believe that this is a step too far.

there are plenty of ways it can be abused I spoke to a local coucillor the other day who said there has been talk of using to see what improvements people have done to their houses so they can reassess house values for  council tax bills, It can be used for sinister uses.

I hate the new Google street view and have had my house which also had our car in the drive taken off it.

I believe it is an invasion of our privacy, it is fine in public areas but not along private residential streets.

For those who are interested I have started a group on facebook for people who hate it and want their house taken off

Take your house off Google Street View

That was a very disapointing match to watch the old petulant Andy was back at times, he was comprehensively outplayed by Nadal who clinically took him apart.

My husband was bemused I was watching it on the laptop with headphones while he was watching road wars on sky, (he really has no taste can't see the appeal of tennis!!) every once in a while I was shouting with frustration, haven't had a match that bad in a long time.

Federer has nothing to gain points wise at dubai I think he will pull out of all the small tournaments he can get away with this year and only defend his big points.  Just do the minimum to maintain the status quo.

Maybe he is hoping that Murrays Purple patch will come to an end soon and he hasn't yet realised that Andys here to stay and Federers time is nearing an end.

His fans seem to think that it is the best thing for "Dearest Roger's" career
his fans just freak me.  Whatever he does is the perfect decision which will guarantee him no 1 and the french and Wimbly.
