You have till the end of the year before you lose the Number One Spot

( thinking, but not out loud "even though you're the No 1 irritating pri*k right now")

WOW clap clap

So, so impressed with Andy today. :p I love it when he owns Fed in such a way.

I thought it was going to be a much tougher battle for our boy. Excellent!

Oh gawd, I've been away from here for far too long. I was sent a link to Pseudo Fed's blog about 18 months ago ( about the time I stopped visiting here Frown  doh@ self, and have howled with laughter at most entries. I had no idea there was a thread on it on murraysworld.
Very Happy It's just brilliant and I'm so pleased loads of others appreciate it too. The bloke behind it is a genius
4  General Community / Andy Talk / Re: Shanghai QF: Murray vs Stepanek on: October 12, 2012, 09:39 am
Yup, Masaka. I dont mind if he wins or loses here this year, it's been a great year for him. All the top players are knackered by this time in the Season.

As you say 2013 is Andy's year....................*hoping I dont jinx him by saying that*

Should be a good semi then. Providing Andy beats "sexybeast" of course. :p

Great to catch up with your news, Bev. I've been so zonked out on painkillers for what seems like months now that I have days when I stick the laptop on and it's two hours later when I come to.

Wow, children have done well. Do you feel Kiwi now?

I've been housebound for several months now, my knees have packed up.....too much tennis playing in my youth, or 50 years of steroids. Frown I rather think it's the latter! which I could cope with, it's the pain that gets me down. Not easy when you live on your own.

coming to terms with having to have No 1 hound put down, but I have a great dog walker for Raffa and he's the easiest dog in the world to have around. Smile He hates morning and hasn't emerged from under the duvet yet. Bless. wub

naughty

I remember him dating Martina Hingis but he's married now apparently.

cheers

I'll never willingly watch Stepanek, why would you want to? :p but she's a lovely looking girl. I honestly thought he'd retired. There's abloke on another forum who thinks both he and Mahut are *sexy beasts*   w00t

Not a bad match between Tsonga and Berdych at the moment. In a second set tie breaker now.

I couldn't give a toss if he lost. He's just had the most magnificent year of his life. It's no disgrace to lose in the semi finals at this time of the season. He's bound to lose matches, hopefully not in the Slams or Masters though Wink Although I'll not be castigating him. Just expending all my emotional energy into willing him on.

All that concerned me was his reverting to old habits which help him not one jot.

:p If you have, then scratch it, w00t! It could be nasty.

How's things Bev? I've neglected this site for too long. Hope all are well and thriving.

:p 7 years 1 month now.

Sorry, just been defending myself on my Andy fan credentials on the Raonic thread.

Childish? Moi? Wink

I'm not condemning his language/behaviour. I'm just pointing out that it does zero for his tennis. It used to fire up Mac, it actively helped him.
Hell, I've been following Andy for 8 years now, watched most televised matches and stared at scoreboards when there was no coverage, I'm not criticising him. I doubt you'll find a much bigger fan and, although I've neglected this forum for ages until I had to come back and post after the US, I've been here since the beginning.
I'm just noting that with Lendl he has shown a much calmer, mature approach which has paid dividends. He's the first coach that I feel he truly respects ( Brad would have sent me round the bend too!) and he listens to him.
What do you want, Andy pre Lendl, or post Lendl? The talent is there and has been for ever, mentally not so much with every Slam loss. Lendl has changed that and Andy listens to him. Maybe "bollocking" was the wong word, but "discuss it" might be productive. IMO it's a trait he needs to lose forever.
Borg and Federer were both tempestuous racket breakers at the start of their careers. They soon realised it was counter productive. Borg had a terrible temper off court, I doubt you'd have got that from his demeanor on the tennis court.
Contrarily Andy off court seems a shy, well mannered sweetie who I think I'd love to spend time with ( well in the confines that he's young enough to be nearly my grandson!).
I hope that clarifies my earlier post. Smile

Cursing and swearing and shouting at his support team. All the players swear and break rackets. Its up to the officials to tell them they shouldn't do it and I wish they would cos it is bad for kids watching. If they lost the next point they would think twice about it. He has to find a way of getting fired up without swearing and hitting himself and the racket and the court. It seems to work when he goes "'mon!!"
Completely agree. Frown That was the "old" Andy who couldn't win a Slam.
Hopefully Ivan will give him a right bollocking, because, unlike the Jonny Macs of this world, it doesn't make Andy play better, it uses up vital emotional and physical energy.

I suppose old habits die hard.

I cant believe I fell asleep during the last set, must be age and the effects of the previous nights ( although I didn't stay awake on Thursday).
I'm not too downhearted though. I've been touting Raonic as top 5 for ages now, Very Happy though not as long as I did for Andy being a GS winner, I predicted on here in 2006 that he would win the 2008 US Open......oops!

I'm getting to the stage where I'm only really going to be worried about Masters and GS's.

:p Oh, and my sleep! I love the Aus Open but not the effects it has on my body clock
14  General Community / Andy Talk / Re: 2012 USO Final: Murray vs Djokovic on: September 12, 2012, 02:28 pm
Wow. Just wow. Still can't believe it happened. First time I've managed to get on here since the match. Usual story - it was an 8am start here so I recorded it while at work then watched when I got home last night and was up until past midnight.

Absolutely amazing. Thought he was gone after the 4th set and expected him to lose the 5th 6-1 or something. On match point I was on my feet and I wanted to jump around the room screaming as loud as I could and go absolutely beserk waking up the whole street. Instead I collapsed in a heap face first on the floor and cried. Andy Murray has now given me tears of joy 3 times in the last few months. Except the Wimbledon semi final and Olympic win were just watery eyes and a couple of tears, this was full on blubbering like a baby. I'm glad the girlfriend had got too tired and went to bed about half an hour earlier as she would not have been able to understand. lol

<snip>

I'm really glad it was Djokovic in the final. Logically we would have hoped for Ferrer to win that semi final as surely there's no way Murray would have lost to him. But you just know what would be said if he had won that 1st grand slam without having to play Federer, Nadal or Djokovic. So I really wanted it to be Djokovic for that reason but I'm sure there are still some people saying it somehow doesn't count because he didn't have to face Federer. I'm also going to write to the guy who presents the sports news on NZ's TV1 channel. After some report just before the tournament he said something along the lines of "you wouldn't bet against Federer" to which the other news presenter responded "I think Andy Murray might." His next response was "no, this is real tennis now not that Olympics nonsense." Any excuse for an anti-British comment.
What a great post invisibleman. I felt exactly the same. I cried and cried. I couldn't cry when my Mother died, as she'd been so ready to go and had zero quality of life, but this time I felt like every pent up moment and emotion since 2004 came out. :p I'm just glad only the dogs were around to witness it!

I dont know why I've stayed away from this forum for so long, it's lovely to read from all the posters who were here back in the day, staring at scoreboards through the night as there was no TV coverage. Every up and down, every bump in the road, every disappointment over those years has all been worth it. And it all came welling to the surface as that magic moment came.

Very Happy Just let anyone say "it's just a game" I'll knock their block off.

Is Bev still around btw?
15  General Community / Andy Talk / Re: 2012 USO Final: Murray vs Djokovic on: September 11, 2012, 09:17 am
I'm so emotionally drained right now. It's been hours and I'm still jumping up and down and dancing around my house. It's finally starting to sink in. A great match, I feel like I lost 15 years of my life watching it, I was so stressed out. Of course I was crying before it was even over. Now let's hope we won't have to wait another 76 years. I see many more slams for Andy, the first one is always the hardest.  trophy

*BLUSH* together I'm watching the highlights ( still in bed though, the joys of retirement) and it's really easy to watch. :p

I dont think I saw many points last night. I was watching through spread fingers. But I'm loving this. I dont think it's sunk in yet. wub
