"Roger Federer Withdraws From Roland Garros"
https://www.atptour.com/en/news/federer-roland-garros-2021-withdrawal

Surely if a player withdraws simply because they feel that after playing three matches they have to pull out of a tournament in order to protect their bodies and not because of injury, the player they played last, in this case Dominik Koepfer, should be awarded the match?  I remember Andy doing this once several years ago citing fatigue as the reason and there was a big fuss about it, yet Federer does it and nobody says anything.

I remember that, Aileen.    Was it Washington against Copil, a very hard match with a very late finish, about 3 a.m., and he sobbed his heart out when he sat down at the end.    I think he realised he couldn't play again the same day.

^   Depends what you mean by fine.     Doubt if  many would want to go back to rule by Westminster though.

Thing is though it is a load more hassle changing a constitution as against setting it up in the preferred way from the outset.

I'm opposed to monarchy in the UK, but have to concede that changing it would bring enormous upheaval.

Agreed but I see it as the only way forward.    I'd love to wave goodbye to Westminster and the monarchy at the same time but will just have to go with extra hassle.     I'm following the programme on BBC2 about the partition of Ireland.     Hassle doesn't even come close to describing what they had to go through for independence.

But you'd need to endorse some kind of constitutional framework for independence first - I.e. in positive favour of the monarchy. You could change things later of course.

Exactly.    No ptoblem then.

Sorry you're so inflexible.

No need really, moonglow.      Just ignore it, as I did over your inflexibility re Brexit.

Independence isn't important to everyone even though it might be to you.
& I thought the SNP wanted to retain the monarchy - if that's what you mean when you say "sort out what else we want".

I know that and it's not "might be" to me - it's "definitely is".     I don't agree with retaining the monarchy and would be glad to be shot of them at some point but at the moment the SNP look like our best chance for independence and that's my goal.

But there is a prior need to be clear what being independent actually is i.e. constitutional principles - hence the SNPs support for the monarchy.

We could be like Oz and argue that later.

^^    You are both welcome to your opinions.

^   I know that but independence is what is most important.      Then we'll sort out what else we want.

No point you ranting at anyone on here about it though LB. You could have voted for a pro-independence, non-monarchist party, but instead you voted for the pro Royal SNP. In fact you are a member! - no one to blame but yourself really.

Baby steps, alt.     First free ourselves from Westminster then work on retiring the monarchy.

When you are in a rage wb you are rarely careful.     I remember Tsitsipas throwing his racquet in a rage.    It hit his father on the arm and his mother came down from the stand to give him a telling off.    No translation was needed.

Murray Magic - You are spot on.     No change in y beliefs either.    Ignore the hyenas.

Thanks Aileen.

Rublev likes Andy and I think has quite a lot of respect for him. There was a nice story of him giving Andy a big hug when he returned to the tour in 2019.

I remember that and Andy saying he was a bit taken aback at the time.    A lot of respect there.

As we watch younger players still  battling against Djokovic in finals I think it shows what  an achievement it was for Andy  in to beat him in two slams.

That was my thought too.    Djoko in his pomp at the time.     Mind you he probably still is.  I don't like Medvedev - never have - so am well pleased with the result.

Thanks. I have never read that paper so your nasty wee swipe is lost on me. My opinions tend to come from reading the facts including distressed letters to Scotsman from pensioners about the removal of eye care treatments out of Edinburgh.

I don't read it either but on Microsoft the first few words of a headline pop up.   "Sturgeon shamed" was yesterday or the day before.     At the moment there is one more or less every day and they are always similar random attack style.    It was the style I recognised.
