I was eyeing up his draw after Gasquet withdrew. Great opportunity of a third round here, although don't want to get too far ahead of myself.
Same here, wasn't too sorry Gasquet withdrew! Thrilled for Wardy - maybe the combination of new coach, and practising with Andy quite a bit this year is all contributing to this good run. And staying healthy of course - let's hope that continues Almost top 100 in the race rankings, at 104 at the moment

Wow.
So Tsonga beat Djokovic, Murray and Federer this week to only his second ever Masters, and first outside the Paris tank-fest. Very impressive stuff... where on earth has this form come from? He's been pretty woeful almost all season.
Andy ended up being the only played to actually take a set off Jo (and really should have won).
Andy even won more points than Jo (93 to 91) - will be kicking himself for letting that lead go I should think

This was the first time that I did not follow the match thread as it was the first time for me to see Andy live. What a fantastic moment that was when I entered the stadium knowing he would play there. At first I did not think it a good idea of the organizers to put Andy and Tsonga first as it promised to become an entertaining match. But then it turned out to be little exciting, to my mind. In the end I regret to say that among all the eight players I saw yesterday Andy was the one who could least live up to the expectations. His return game clicked in late, (yet in all fairness Tsonga served incredibly, not allowing Andy too many opportunities), his fighting spirit only came to life when he stood with the back against the wall and when everybody thought now the match was in his hands, he let Tsonga back in. The story of the 2014 season. Most surprisingly, Tsonga won even a lot of the longer rallies. Tbh, there were not too many rallies at all, and too few moments when Andy's brilliance shone through. Therefore I canot share his impression of a " high-level" match. Nevertheless, an unforgettable day despite Andy's defeat. Next time I will cheer again for him, then from my living-room.
That sounds like the match I watched! Thanks for the report - must have been a good day overall - all the QFs going to three sets. I've only seen Andy playing live once - v Berdych at WTF 2012. It wasn't a great match to be honest, though Andy did win. Hoping to see him there again this year...

Q. You had some taping on your knee today. Is that a problem or did that affect you in the first set? It looked as though perhaps your movement wasn't quite what it had been in the first match. ANDY MURRAY: Well, it was a very different match today. It was much quicker pace. A lot of that has to do with the way that Jo plays and the way he was serving in the first set. I think, you know, when you come back onto the hard courts after a break and not playing any matches for five weeks, you know, you feel things are a little bit sore but nothing to be concerned about.
