1  General Community / Andy Talk / Re: Breaking Sad News: Andy Murray to retire at Wimbledon - AO last match? on: January 11, 2019, 01:23 pm
It was always on the cards but it all seems very surreal. It was a shock to the system this morning. I really don't know what to say apart from "Andy, thanks for the last 12 years"

I will miss you Frown

Aileen, you are one of the most arrogant and condescending posters it's ever been my misfortune to come across. Kindly keep your stupid opinions to yourself in future.

Andy has always maintained he will only come back if 100%. I think he finally grasps the reality of the situation when before, he would probably try coming back too early. I for one am glad he isn't returning until he's satisfied he can compete.

If he doesn't come back at all then so be it. I'm sure we'll be told at the appropriate time.

I hope he doesn't intend to come back for the clay season, it was that 4 hour match vs 'rinka last year that got him into this predicament in the first place. Clay is hard on the joints, hopefully he uses a bit of commo9n sense and comes back for Queens.

Great result for Kyle!.

You know, there is nothing worse than when the BBC open up a HYS on Murray matches and you read all those stupid Anti English remarks from Daily mail reader level trolls, or so I thought. There are so many removed comments today in Kyle's headline report, mostly from people claiming it's an awesome win for south Africa. I really hate living in this Country at times, I think if I had the money I'd probably emigrate  Think

I haven't been interested in watching tennis since Wimbledon last year. Knowing Andy is out injured just makes watching tennis too depressing. I can't help but look back to the end of 2016 when he had that training block only a few weeks after his exhausting end of season. He should have had a longer rest before coming back, and I feel Lendl pushed him too hard to keep momentum going. He started to look out of sorts as early as the Australian open, and it's been downhill ever since.

Everything is now pointing towards surgery. If you spend 6 months off the tour and the problem still persists, then you know it's serious and it's clear to everybody that even more rest and rehabilitation isn't going to fix his hip problem. I fully understand his reluctance in going under the knife, the last 6 months of rehab proved that but it's obvious to me that surgery is now the only option left.

The question now of course is what shape will he be in when he returns? I saw Barry 5 sets on Sky sports suggest surgery won't mean the end of his career, it's now a matter of how competitive he would be on his return. I think we all know Andy doesn't want to retire from the game just yet and if anybody can recover from such an operation, then it's him. His drive and ambition sets him apart from most players, but realistically, we would be looking at not seeing him play tennis for another year.

By then he would have been out of the game for 18 months, and will be in a Del Potro situation with wild cards and at least 6 months of tennis before he finds his rhythm again. So the best scenario for me would be Andy playing tennis again at a decent level by the time he hits 32 years of age.

I would like to think that he could still be competing for slams again at that age, but my gut instinct says the game will have passed him by and the most we can hope for is a Hewitt type end to his career. Very depressing start to the year, I hope Andy can prove us all wrong and I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for him.

Those 'reliable' sources were quoted by Russell Fuller, there is no definitive diagnosis. The thing is, if it is a labrum tear, then I don't understand why he thought (or was told) that he could rehab it with rest etc. It doesn't make any sense to me because "Once torn, the labral tissue in the hip does not have the ability to heal on its own. ... Surgical interventions are available to clean out the hip joint, and repair or reconstruct the torn labral tissue"

What a horrible start to the new year, for him and his fans

Andy is of course making headlines in this Country because the British press like to speculate and the only headlines that would garner interest would be negative doom saying.

It's funny how Wawrinka and Raonic can pull out of an exho tournament in Abu Dhabi without talk of career ending injuries. Stan's injured knee is just as worrying as Andy's hip problem but I don't see any reports that his career may be over.

It's quite frankly pathetic how the press have made a delay in travel plans into such a big deal with click bait headlines suggesting Andy's about to announce his retirement from tennis.

What bizarre timing...

Even more bizarre that people are celebrating it, awful news.

I can't remember either Castle or Henman ever winning a grandslam title - maybe you can remember these things?  Maybe had they listened to other non-grandslam winners they might have done better?
I'm not going to listen to anyone re Andy, I'm going to wait until January, and then I can make my own mind up.

It's not that I agree with them, I just wonder why they are continuing with that narrative when everything else I've read suggests Andy is doing brilliantly in his comeback. The BBC are really starting to wind me up.
13  General Community / Andy Talk / Re: Murray Pictures on: November 12, 2017, 02:08 pm
He looks ok to me there, but if you watched the BBC intro today, both Castle and Henman were stating he looks like he's limping as badly as he was during Wimbledon.....

Andy Murray 'clearly uncomfortable' with hip problem - Andrew Castle

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/tennis/41917209

I really hope this is Castle just trying to get a headline. I am however preparing myself for the worst and think that this hip injury may shorten or even end his career  nervous

What is Nadal implying here? that Murray only withdrew cos of the draw? Andy's draw was a dream come true lol unless I got confused as to what Nadal is saying here.
