The most remarkable thing about Andy losing his number 1 spot is who is most likely replacing him. I wonder what the odds on Rafa were at the start of the year.

I didn't mean that he wasn't right to seize his chance when he did- I'm thrilled for him that he got there after so long working so hard. Nor do I think he'd regret it!

I just found myself wondering, had he not managed it then, with the injuries and illnesses he's struggled with in the part of the year he was "supposed" to be making his run for No 1, would that insane levels of motivation have carried him through? Would he have still achieved it, with the added complications? I couldn't even make up my mind whether I would have thought he would have done it! lol But I thought it was interesting to ponder. So I thought I'd ask others on here what they thought!  Think

I just noticed that the criteria for entering the tennis HoF is changing in 2018

• Criteria for automatic ballot inclusion on first eligible ballot will be:

- Singles: Must have won 3 major singles titles and have been world No. 1 for a minimum of 13 weeks; Or, have won 5 major singles titles

So i'm even more happy that Andy worked so hard last year Very Happy

So pleased Nadal won , purely because I didn't want Stan to have more slams , I know I'm horrible but it's how I feel .

I concur

Yep, Fed could be 4th if he does something pre Wimbledon and Stan doesn't

Fed's gonna be seeded 5 for Wimbledon which is a bit scary.

He will be 4th if he wins Halle?
51  General Community / Andy Talk / Re: Roland Garros 2017 SF: Andy Murray vs Stan Wawrinka on: June 09, 2017, 09:42 pm
At this stage of his career I have a feeling Andy is only going to care about slams from now on. Stan set a good example in that regard and perhaps Andy should take a leaf out of his book. The problem though still remains for Andy, and that's how to still be fresh at the business end of a slam. I think we can forgive him for not having the legs here which honestly is simply down to a lack of overall fitness, it's to his credit it took someone 4 and a half hours to dispatch him. But, we're all aware Andy isn't the aggressive player Stan is, Stan's game is all about being explosive and that makes him inconsistent but he has apparently found a way to make sure he is consistent in slams.

I guess what i'm trying to say is, now Andy has turned 30, he's no longer going to be able to rely on outlasting his opponents over 2 weeks so perhaps it's time for him to try and adjust his playstyle and be more aggressive. It might mean a few early exits, but it could also mean a few more slam wins. Let's be honest, judging by his body language during that 4th set TB, he would have been toast vs Nadal in the final, so maybe Stan did him a favour in that regard.

So it looks like a terrorist incident now. Borough market is 30 seconds walk from London Bridge. So the van hit pedestrians on the bridge, then 3 men were seen brandishing knives heading towards the market stabbing people at random. Now I hear gunshots were heard.

Just noticed that Nadal is on court SL tomorrow, that's surprising, maybe Paire requested it.

Thanks Gnome.  Very much appreciated!

It's a shame that the article was slightly ruined by Mitchell thinking Wawrinka beat Alexander Zverev instead of Mischa in Geneva. You'd think a guy who gets paid to cover tennis would get that right.

Something a bit brighter instead of the non stop doom and gloom currently

A tennis player's fortunes can change really quickly. His match with Paire last year is a prime example, sometimes all it needs is a modicum of luck with a net cord, or saving match points.

So Andy will be playing on Sunday then?
59  General Community / Andy Talk / Re: Andy at Roland Garros on: May 25, 2017, 11:52 pm
I agree.
I thought at first that Andy was more likely just going through the motions for the benefit of the cameras and UA, with Riner 'allowing' him to beat him, but now I find that, according to the DM, he does seem to have treated it as a training session and "practised a few throws" saying “being No1 means pushing to find whatever can help your game”, adding that "injuries are no excuse for not playing".  He certainly looks fit and healthy enough in the pics, but will he look the same after he's played tennis for a couple of hours or more?  He certainly looked knackered after a training session with Lendl the other day.

Well I'm baffled too, Gnome, and have all but given up trying to figure out what's going on.  It's his body and his career anyway, so the ultimate responsibility lies with him, and there's nothing any of us can do about it.

Well the plot thickens

"The world No 1 has been on antibiotics to counteract viral symptoms and is said to have barely practised on Monday and Tuesday this week after feeling what his spokesman described as 'under the weather'.

However he was able to put in a vigorous practice session on Thursday, on the Court Philippe Chatrier at Roland Garros.

Murray was said to be feeling much improved during his hitting session with Fernando Verdasco"

These reports seem to conflict somewhat with Andy practising Judo with Teddy Riner on top of a skyscraper, something i'm sure wouldn't have happened if he was genuinely feeling rubbish and certainly not something to do if you have an elbow injury.

Not sure what's goin on to be honest, hopefully we get some confirmation over the next few days. If he is still struggling with energy, I just hope he has sense to withdraw from the tournament.
