..so...
' I wonder if he was also a tad complacent?  I think that he will win the next match whoever he plays.'

That comment is the definition of complacency!

Andy should skip the Aus open...and play smaller comps next year. He isnt currently good enough to play the top guys in best of 3...let alone 5 sets. A couple of months in the gym won't fix that.

Murray played some great tennis today....but...ultimately lost his cool at the end. Clearly no love lost between Andy and Fognini...and lost focus after a dispute. Some good signs on his comeback trail though.
4  General Community / Andy Talk / Re: Breaking Sad News: Andy Murray to retire at Wimbledon - AO last match? on: January 11, 2019, 03:28 pm
Huge loss for tennis!! It was on the cards as soon as the back surgery...the hip was the last straw. He was never going to be a player who would accept mediocre performance and results to end his career...he's a proud fighter....a winner.
Not just the best British player to grace the game but will be remembered by the world game, despite not collecting the trophy count of the top rivals of his era. He has been an underrated player most of his career by many...no more so than in the UK. The UK loves to berate itself as having no exceptional talent and then when real talent shows up ...loves to tear it down. It took a ridiculous amount of time and success to be 'accepted ' by the UK public. A long, long wait, no doubt, to find a UK player anywhere near as good as Andy.
I loved not only his exceptional abilities as a tennis player ...but his natural modesty, humility, grace and acceptance towards all people...something that not all elite players possess. l also loved the raw emotion he showed on the court and Im struggling to think of a player who will retain my level of interest in the sport such is the dearth of on court personality and of course due to that weird 'tennis etiquette' imposed on players.

Hugely disappointing that such a great player will be unable to go out on his terms ... especially when he surely knows that his tennis would win more majors if his body was healthy.

Will watch what he does after tennis with keen interest... In true Andy style..I doubt the Muzza rollercoaster has ended......

hobbling? Seems like people are looking for something that isn't there. He looked fine to me.

....and to me he did. Couldnt give a monkeys what comms did and didn't mention they are punters like the rest of us....although actually the comms i listened to did  notice and mention it.

A good win for Andy, all things considered. Whilst he is still hobbling around the court between points...it didn't look as pronounced, to me,  as did in the last comp and prior to that. He looked like he was physically in better shape..
It took him a while to get into it...but then all these years watching Andy's very own rollercoaster rides ....it felt familiar.
I have he feeling he can get himself back challenging slams ...but can't see it till next year. His timing and range aren't there yet. He also has lost power in his shots....possibly down to lack of hip rotation. If he is going to play tennis chess he'll need to find his timing and range.
I don't think Andy is going to change how he plays...he is a counter puncher...always has been ...his 'weapons' have been strategy and physicality. Its just that he'll need his physicality back to do that...hopefully he gets himself moving freely. In amongst the mediocrity today....and lot of the tennis in the match was definitely that....there were flashes of the great player he was and is. Consistency and improvement are what im hoping for in this Usopen from Andy. Hopefully at the next Australian open we see him right back in the mix.
7  General Community / Andy Talk / Re: Andy at Washington on: August 03, 2018, 03:29 pm
Watched the match. Was an up and down performance ..but he fought hard to win. Serving was below  his best..2nd serve gets rammed right back at him or past him..coupled with some poor shot decisions and execution at opportune moments. ..rusty but thats totally fair considering. Vocal Andy is also back...good thing or bad thing for his tennis ...who knows.

To me, his hip is not anyway near100% ..he spent almost every in-between point hobbling. I doubt he'd last a slam with successive long matches over a 2 week period. Great to see.him back however and he had some trademark exceptional shots in the mix.

The opponent played well and was aggressive in his shots throughout.  Andy somehow butchered a 5-0 lead at the 1st set tie break and so match could have been wrapped up earlier.

Great to see Andy back however he's got a fair bit to go in his recovery. Tennis  was boring without Andy.

Sad. This hip issue could easily be career ending. Possibly linked to the previous lower back surgery? The look on his face said it all.
Should just take rest of year off and see where its at.

Fed's sarcasm is as tip top as his tennis it seems...even at a charity match.

Before the match, the players spoke to Eurosport and both were asked what the other one does better. Murray said: 'Pretty much everything'. Federer said: 'Speaking English and being a Sir.'

Smuggers wins!

'I'd be happy to draw' comment ...laughable...utter ******** to gain adulation. I've watched him soo many times spit the dummy when things aren't going his way to believe that for second.
'I work hard like everyone else' statement... or... 'i train too...im just better at tennis than everyone.'

Very fortunate he had a 6 month holiday... combined with Djoko and Andy were out of form due to mental physical tiredness. Nadal still isn't the player he was in his prime either.

C'mon Rafa!!!! Please not smuggers!
12  General Community / Andy Talk / Re: Australian Open R4: Andy Murray vs Mischa Zverev on: January 22, 2017, 07:36 pm
Some, media pundits etc,  are a bit overboard about Zverev's performance. He played as well as he can play Id say...he played some great shots...he also played a ton of mistakes which an in form Andy usually takes advantage of. Andy wasn't making a very low percentage of his trademark shots. His serving wasn't at his best level either. His composure at important moments also just wasn't there.

Arguably Andy's best opportunity to win the Aus open. Next year he should have a good shot at it also.... after that Id say chances will decline.

Roll on the French...If he can reproduce or better last years clay form he'll be right in the mix.

Zverev will be bumped out next round ...
14  General Community / Andy Talk / Re: Australian Open R4: Andy Murray vs Mischa Zverev on: January 22, 2017, 07:47 am
No composure?  Well you could have fooled me.  He was considerably more composed than many of us were.  Worse than Wimbledon 2014?

Nah... all the petulant arguing with his box was back in abundance the whole match...played like he had no plan B. Didn't even sense he fought that hard. Simply a terrible match from Andy by his standards.
15  General Community / Andy Talk / Re: Australian Open R4: Andy Murray vs Mischa Zverev on: January 22, 2017, 07:32 am
Zverev made plenty of errors....Andy showed absolutely no composure befitting of a No1 today. Had chances... blew them all. Struggling to think of a worse performance in a slam from him. Bizarre .....
