Sluggish start, which may cost him the first set.
Don't be too quick to write Andy off! Just hit his fourth ace to go 3-2.

and Andy breaks right back! US Open radio commentator says he was baiting Kyrgios to go for too much.

Gulbis retired! Bedene into second round.

Thought Jo played a really good match.  Hope Laura can manage it after losing 2nd set
Laura was up a break in the third and eventually lost 7-5. Bummer.

Wardy now down 2 sets to love though docuxh better in second than first against Bellucci.

Ajax Bedene lost first set against Gulbis 6-3, now down a break 1-2 in second, but doing his best.

She killed the other girl in the second set! Great deep backhands. Laura Robson is now up a set but down a break in the second against Vesnina. Hitting well but sometimes long.

I totally agree about Bleacher Report. Half the people who write things for it are illiterate or non-native English speakers, and the people who post comments are depressingly ignorant mad Fed or Nadal or Djokovic fans. Which reminds me that although Nadal dropped a set to Coric last night he definitely looked sharper and faster. Although McEnroe and Darren Cahill who were commenting both said they didn't think he'd make it past the quarter-finals.
4452  General Community / Tennis Talk / Re: USO on TV on: August 27, 2015, 12:20 am
does this apply if one is in the US or will it be possible to access the USO website without restrictions?  I'll be there for the last few days of USO and have discovered that it's now on ESPN, which is cable tv, so don't know whether we'll be able to access it where we're staying.  I'll only be bothering if Andy gets to SF/F as I wouldn't normally want to spend my hols watching tennis!

Ruthie, ESPN is pretty much basic cable and wherever you're staying you should almost certainly have it, so I wouldn't worry.

Kyle Edmund, Johanna Konta, Naomi Broady all scheduled to play today in the first round of US Open qualifiers. Also, rather incredibly, Nicolas Almagro! Cannot believe he has to qualify. Among other rather surprising qualifying entrants—Igor Sijsling (in fact he's playing Almagro), Ivan Dodig, Edouard Roger-Vasselin, Alexander Zverev (thought he would have made the main draw this time), Kiki Bertens, Jurgen Melzer.

Andy not only got one more game than Novak, he got a whole lot more points in his tiebreak...
Federer, all credit to him, has basically found a way to reinvent his game, especially, I think, in best-of-three-set matches. I also think that (a) he definitely won't be able to do as well in best-of-fives, and (b) the other players will get to work on figuring out how to respond and will come up with ways to beat him. I'm betting on Andy to do it first!

First, Andy's played almost two full tournaments in two weeks, won one of them and reached the semis of the second. Federer is super fresh and frankly playing really well. Andy has to figure out how to get into his serve more, but otherwise except for a few blips at the beginning of the first set he played totally solidly. I was a bit shocked by all that stuff that people were posting at the beginning about a beat-down and a massacre. Rubbish.
