It hurts to be honest, I've followed Murray's career since 2005 when saw Murray play Tomas Johannsson at the Queen's club and realized then he had something special.
We knew that when Murray returned in 2019 he was not going to be the same player he was from 2005-2017 though he showed glimpses of brilliance, he won an ATP tour title and then got injured in a Davis Cup match late in 2019, then Covid happened and after that period Murray never regained that late 2019 form which was of a top 20 level in my opinion.
His physical limitations have hamstrung him but being out there is an amazing achievement in itself.

I wish Andy all the best, of course I hold that candle to see him return to the court but if this means he can live life without pain then it's a victory in itself. He has literally put his body on the line to succeed at a sport he loves dearly.

General Community / Andy Talk / Re: Breaking Sad News: Andy Murray to retire at Wimbledon - AO last match?

I'm tearful, I'll really miss watching him play, I've followed his career since I saw this skinny lad come out to play at the Queen's Club in 2005. Nearly 14 years later this happens, he put his mind, body and dare I say soul into playing Tennis, he left everything out there and what he's achieved in an era where 3 other players have basically dominated for the last 10+ years is remarkable. I don't think I'll ever vehemently support a player like I did with Andy

I can't see Andy retiring if he speaks of how much he loves playing tennis, he might go down the Tommy Haas route of retiring on his own terms, not being forced due to an injury. I don't think Haas is actually retired lol and he's what 40??
I'm pretty gutted to be honest but one thing for sure is that it's been a privilege supporting Andy since 2005 when I first saw him play at the Queen's club.

"According to sources of the BBC, Murray has a torn labrum, which is a ring of cartilage around the acetabulum.
"Following surgery, crutches will be used for up to six weeks and there should be no expectation to return to activities such as running for at least a period of six months[28]""
I'm just quoting this from a decent poster from the Talk Tennis forums.

There is nothing to be ashamed or down beat about, absolutely nothing. Murray is fighting his way into form and he/we can be proud of that.
Murray's form prior to the French was poor, he's fought to make the Semis and pushed hard Wawrinka, who can raise his game vs anyone and beat them.
I had to vacate Talk Tennis as the acid tongued wierdos over there always find something to bash Murray, they are an annoyance.
