This is awesome.....
how many GS has Fred won??

He won 8.

If there is really some scary coincidental stuff going on... Andy will win AO, Wimbledon and defend his US Open next year like Fred Perry did.

Hi All,

It really does make the hairs on the back of the neck stand up, doesn't it?

That said, I do think some things are just meant to be, and I'm convinced Andy getting his first major at the USO, a tournament he has always said he loves, was meant to be. Fate, written in the stars, whatever, to my mind this was the moment when everything lined up for Andy to get his first one, the moment when he could show the world how brilliant he is.

Looking back over Wimbledon now, I'm convinced there was some kind of 'administrative' error up above. Someone went and got Murray and Marray confused lol. Ah well, plenty of time, not that I think we'll have to wait long.

His performances at the USO are so strange. It must be his least consistent Slam?

Since 2009:

AO: R4, F, F, SF
FO: QF, R4, SF, QF
W: SF, SF, SF, F
USO: F (2008), R4, R3, SF, W

Wimbledon and the AO (since 2010 at least) is where he's been most consistent. At RG he's either reached the QF or gone one better or worse. Whereas in the US he's gone from a final, to a couple of early exits, to winning it just two years later.

Many, many people always said they thought the US would be his first and they've proved to be right, so fair play. I always thought it would be the AO where I've think he's played his best tennis (until Wimbledon this year), apart from in the two finals unfortunately.

Hi TMH and all,

I think Andy's results from  2008 until now are somewhat explicable, even if they don't seem like it.

2009 was the year he lost to Cilic. He had a wrist injury at the time.

2010 was an odd one, losing to Wawrinka so early. I've always considered this to be part of that bad patch after losing in the final in Australia. I seem to remember him not being a particularly happy bunny on the court that day, even before he lost the match.

What I'd like to know is how many of Andy's losses at the USO have come on Armstrong. He seems to really dislike that court.

As for the AO, maybe the best is yet to come there. I hope so. If it does it will be well worth the wait.

I think his performances at the AO in the last three years have been far more impressive than his performances at the USO, including this year. The only difference this year is his amazing resilience, which is ultimately the difference between falling short and winning the whole thing.

At the AO, in 2010 and 2011, he was very impressive from R1 to the semis. At the USO he's had poor patches in a fair few matches. At the AO he has been somewhat disappointing in the two finals he's played, but again, it all comes down to this mental fortitude that has appeared in his game this year. If he'd had that in the two AO finals he'd probably have won at least one, given the way he'd played throughout the tournament.

Not to criticise his performances this year - they were obviously very impressive, albeit a bit patchy at times, I just think his performances during the two AO tournaments were better, more consistent. Maybe it's all relative though.

Anyway, I'll be amazed if he doesn't win the AO in the next 2-3 years. He's got a very realistic chance at the AO, Wimbledon or the USO next year. Who knows what will happen. Will Federer still be playing a very high level, will Rafa be back somewhere near his best, will Andy be able to step his game up even more? Will someone else come along to nip in and take one? I'm looking forward to it.

I honestly thought Andy first GS win would be the AO but I'm not suggesting for one minute he hands the US trophy back.  naughty I am sure he will win the AO in 2013 as he will be full of confidence and all the doubts he had in the past have now been put to rest.

I completely agree with this.
Murray's level at the last 2 AO's was astounding, there were flashes of brlliance in this tournament of course but at the end of the day it was sheer will, mental toughness and just wanting it more that got him the title. And i'm very happy with that.
If he is relaxed and plays as he has done or better then he has to be the favourite for the title.
I think we may have seen the last of Murray as a choker pusher etc.
I will say also that the weather conditions, humidity and wind particularly affected the standard of play from Andy and the others as well,
But it is to be applauded how he managed to focus and handle those conditions better than say Novak Djokovic, apparently one of the mentally toughest players ever.
Its all good really.

Organisers say Andy Murray definitely not coming to tomorrow's Olympics parade in Glasgow - shame but plenty of other sporting heros

Aww, that is a real shame, I thought he would have gone, and then pop up to Dunblane and see his family. I'm disappointed about that. Frown

You told me this year that he wasn't going to win a slam!
What! And she had the cheek to question my dedication to Andy the other day.
