Having spent the last few days catching up on the posts re: Andy's  French Open campaign and now these new comments re: Queens. I feel some of my MW colleagues are unduely harsh and critical of him. He made the quarters of the French but lost to ferrer who just happens to be a clay court specialist. Granted last year he made the semis beating Chela the round before. Hardly Ferrer! Additionally he was troubled by a back complaint that almost derailed him in round two. All this after he lost his French Open exhibition match to Gulbis. So should we therefore all be reaching for the nearest set of razor blades or hangmans noose just because he lost in the first round of Queens? I think not. I for one trust Andy. If he says he is not panicking then I won't either. No significance should be drawn from this latest result, we would all do well to give it the relevant objective perspective the result requires.

Hi, missed the match as I was out. Not surprised he lost, for some reason I had a bad feeling about this tournament. Sorry he lost, but a bit of stress free tennis won't hurt. The worse bit is reading the comments on here and in the press. Try to get things in perspective folks, kids are being massacred in Syria, abused on the streets of Britain, and people are worried out of their minds in Greece. Murray, lost a tennis match - not really in the same league. Perhaps his back is still not right, perhaps he is having personal problems. Who knows. The other top players don't often lose these sort of matches. I see them as automatons. People can chose to support them. If you follow Murray this sort of thing is what you can expect. Don't then complain because that is what happens. He has still achieved more than any other British tennis player in the last 70 years. Perhaps he is going to have a duff year and drop a few places in the rankings.  He still has a few years left in him. He is not exactly facing a challenge for Britains no 1 tennis player is he?  Leave the poor sod alone. Apologiesn if this offends anyone, but this is not the end of the world.

   

Wow some people need to calm down a bit lol. Too much talk of Murray losing it and will now have a slide down the rankings. Not going to happen. He's still quite a bit ahead in the points and a class apart from the other players behind him.

Yes it's a shame he lost, but Mahut played outstandingly well and deserved to win as he's a tricky opponent on any surface (he took a set off Federer at the French I believe and did well at the Aussie open). And lets face it, while Queens is a prestigious tournament it's not a grand slam. In terms of the overal tour it's a rinky dink 250 event on the lowest rung of the main ladder. Lots of other seeds are falling in the switch from clay to grass so no need to panic.

The way I look at things at the moment is that Murray needs to sort his head out a little bit. His game is comparable with the top three, his mental ability isn't but Lendl will help with that (as he's been their and done it). However, that's going to take a bit of time. You can't just undo Murray's 25 years of thinking / behaving one way in six months (and Lendl has been out of the game for 15 odd years so needs to learn too).

Also, Murray has several years ahead of him at the top of the game (if injuries stay away and he tackles a few of aforementioned mental demons) nobody is really coming through on the men's side. Milos Raonic has potential on fast courts but other than him there's nobody (sorry but I don't rate Tomic) because of the way the game is progressing (with more and more players making breakthroughs in their early to mid twenties rather than as teenage prodigies).

Murray will have his time yet. I still have faith. He'll get his slam. Whether it be this year or the next.

And if he doesn't well look at it this way; Murray is the next step in the progression of the British game. He's a step up in class (and an evolution) from the likes of Henman and Rusedski and what was before them. Murray will obviously win a lot more tournaments yet but now, in the future and when he retires junior players will look at his career and want to better it (hopefully they'll be an evolution of the way Murray plays and go on to win even more than he has). By the time Murray's finished playing he'll have done a lot for British tennis and for the sport as a whole whether he has a slam or not. In the end that'll be a damn well decent way to end a career if you ask me.

Whilst I absolutely love this site, there are times such as today that it does my nut in!!   Whilst I am a stalwart Muzza fan I am not blind to his shortcomings.  But let's put things in perspective, Andy is obviously concentrating his efforts on the Grand Slams, yes this was bitterly dissapointing, but hey it's a tennis match which in the big scheme of things has little relevance to his overall plans.  I am sure his team will have a contingency plan in place.  His game is very much in transition just now and this cannot be easy to change a lifetime of habits and learn to play in a new style. He is obviously trying to find the right balance, yes his performance was lacklustre, error strewn but there were small bits of play that were high quality, so he has not lost it, class is permanent and form is temporary.

I think some posters on here need to exercise a bit of perspective, we cannot control Andy's destiny, only he and his team can do that, good job really cos if some of today's posters were controlling him, I fear they may, after today, put him out to grass and retirement!!!

I have this sneaky feeling that at some point this year, a surprise will be sprung and it may well come good. 

At the end of the day, it is part and parcel of being a Murray fan, the highs, the lows, right now things are low, but our boy is nae quitter and he will be doing everything to get himself right back up there.

Remember when Djoko was going through his period of transition, he was being written off by the media, pundits etc now look at him - ruling the tennis world.  Keep the faith, hey it may never happen but then again it might just and I for one am prepared to take my seat on the Murray Coaster, in the hope that I can witness that day.
