Murray doubtful for Davis Cup tie

Quote

British number one Andy Murray could miss this week's Davis Cup tie with the Netherlands because of a groin injury.

My groin is not too good.

The inflammation in my hip bone is not too bad but I tried practising yesterday and didn't feel good at all.

I'll have to see what it's like on Wednesday - if it's not good, there is a good chance I won't be able to play.

First there's a chance he might not be fit, then it's likely he'll be fine and now it's doubtful he can play the tie Rolling Eyes

^ he won't if he isn't fit, and it doesn't sound good.

Silly boy, played the Djoko match, just because it might have gotten him into the top 10. Now he might miss the part of the year where he could have made most of the points needed to get into top 8, for something which now seemed a near-certain defeat  Rolling Eyes

Although the symptoms can't have been bad before, because Brad wouldn't have let him ruin his long-term health for 'may-be-top-10'. Think

But has no idea of the physical stuff. He said that after the Haas match when quized about his decision not to pull out of the semi. Brad asked him how he felt and was happy enough to go with what Andy thought.

This sentence:

I'll have to see what it's like on Wednesday - if it's not good, there is a good chance I won't be able to play.

makes me a little more optimistic though. He's not saying theres a good chance he won't be able to play. He's giving himself till Wednesday again. And even then it's not a definite no. I think he'll be a doubt for singles all the way until Friday morning but if he doesn't play will play doubles on Saturday. Then if it's essential for the tie he'd play Sunday.

Are you suggesting a groin injury will or could keep him from playing this clay season? That's ridiculous.

I do however agree that he shoudn't of played that match against Djokovic, one again, another unprofessional decision.

I’m not 100 per cent fit, I don’t know if I will be for the weekend and unless I am, I won’t play.

When I don’t give 100 per cent I feel pretty bad about myself and I did that last year in Glasgow. I won’t make that mistake again.

Last year I shouldn’t really have played in the Davis Cup. I didn’t make my own decision.

I was kind of doing what I thought was best for the team but ended up not really helping out. Without me the team is still very good so it is more about making sure I am in good shape and not putting my health at risk.

You look at other players like [Rafael] Nadal, who is out injured, [Roger] Federer, who misses a few ties, Tim [Henman], who stopped for a couple of years. It is difficult to fit everything in.

I enjoy playing for my country but if I am not fit enough to do it then I don’t want to do my country a disservice by having to retire in a match or not being able to give 100 per cent.
