of course not, merely comparing their situations at this stage in the season. how can you compare the two, one has played in about 30 more slams than the other. compare them both in 2020!!

You always think your player is the basket case, then you look at everyone else. Highlights from Indian Wells for the top 6 :
Baghdatis def. Federer 57 75 76
Ljubicic def. Djokovic 75 63
Soderling def. Murray 61 76
Ljubicic def. Nadal 36 64 76
Del Potro pulled out before the tournament started
Davydenko withdrew
Astoundingly bad.

Astoundingly bad.
Hmmm - definitely food for thought.
Just watched the 2nd and 3rd sets of the Roddick/Soderling match (Roddick 6-4, 3-6, 6-3), and what I saw wasn't very pretty. Despite occasional flashes of brilliance, neither player was at his best. A-Rod's serve often deserted him and in the 3rd Soderling was hitting unforced errors all over the place, depending mainly on his serve for quick points. And who a week ago would have expected a Roddick/Ljubicic final? [2 pm PST - 9 pm GMT]
So maybe, despite that very forgettable 1st set, we shouldn't be so critical about Murray? He's at home in Miami so perhaps he'll settle down a bit and perk up his game. We have to keep faith ...

So pleased to read a few more positive posts especially Lucky Loser who said everything that needed to be said.
Why do people join and make their first post so negative, surely it is easier to support a player who plays the way you want them to. Less stressful I would have thought.
Aileen I usually agree with most of your comments but to say it is different for a man in a break up is not correct. I think at times it is worse. Sex is very important to men and at Andys age. willy wants to wave more often than not. Even if the sex with Kim was hopeless, it was still there for him. Now he goes home to a huge empty house, with no girlfriend and (I assume) no sex. After the AO defeat he definately needed someone, a kiss and cuddle from his Mum is not the same. Definately part of Andys problem at the moment.
A change of coach at this stage is silly. Andy has had a change in his personal life, he has moved recently, how many more changes can he cope with.
Nobody has mentioned this but if Andy wants to he can take advantage of the Adidas players advancement programme, like Verdasco did. He has access to Darren Cahill, who in my opinion is the best coach in the business. That may be a option for Andy, a session of two with Cahill rather than a complete change of coach. Mind you with Miles unable to hit with Andy because of his back, you wonder if Andy will forced to change his coach.

Interesting point about the coach, Jean. I agree, the input of someone like Darren Cahill could just provide the tweaks needed.
Feel a little uncomfortable delving into off-court stuff, but what about the Maggie factor?
In his up-dated book Andy writes: "Getting Maggie...was probably one of the happiest days of my life...She's made a big difference to my general happiness. I'm a lot more relaxed these days..." Awww.
I don't think you can underestimate the benefits of the unconditional love an animal provides. Especially to someone who lives in a goldfish bowl with every word and action scrutinised.

He lives in a goldfish bowl where all he hears are positives, it's outside of the bowl where every action is scrutinised.
In regards to the AO loss, he spoke about how he appreciated that everyone around him was trying to make him just think of the positives.

Mark, by being in a goldfish bowl I meant everything he does/says is open to be scrutinised by the media etc which can harldy be described as dwelling on the positives!
In personal, off-court moments, an animal can counterbalance this and help relieve tension, I think.

I agree with your comment about Maggie, it could have played an important role in reducing the stress off court... especially after seeing that quote from the book.

Hmm. I am hoping that, rather than he is just shit, that he just can't really be bothered with the non-slam tournaments (I'm reluctant to say small but...) hopefully he'll snap out of it but his chances of doing well at Roland Garros are less, and maybe that means he won't bother much there, but if he keeps on not being himself, then he won't have had enough practice to stand much chance at Wimbledon. However if he drops off the face on the planet for a while, it might do him some good at Wimbledon because he may go under the radar...

He has said that he will be happier when he is in Miami as two of his closests friends are there at the moment and the place is peaceful and quiet. Perhaps having close friends and a familiar peaceful environment will help him focus easily on what needs to be done for the future.

All I read about in this site is about excuses for failure...tennis is about winning! You win or lose and start again!
Murray's ex-girlfriend does not return serve and play tennis for Andy..he is a big boy and must go forward in life...we all work everyday and we all have problems and go forward!

Wow really? This is a very refreshing to hear - nearly everyone who comes on MW to complain says we are too harsh on Murray when he loses
