Come on folks Goliath slew David today but who knows what the future might bring.
And, if it doesn't bring slams, so what? I'll always love Andy and his beautiful game and as long as he keeps playing, I'll keep supporting him.
That's for you Andy
And this is for everyone else who still loves him
BBH I will always go on supporting Andy.
And I could have hugged the reporter on the BBC news who pointed out that Britain's No.2 player is ranked nearly 200 places below Andy and that therefore we should be proud of what he has achieved. I do wish, though, that they'd stop the practice of interviewing a beaten man within minutes of his walking off the court. Andy's anguish was heart-breaking to watch.
I said in an earlier post there has been a noticeable improvement both in Andy's mental and physical game, and he knows he has to continue working on this in order to achieve his aims. Hopefully he'll take many positives from this match, get over his disappointment quickly and move on.
Also I don't believe for a minute that that one misfiring shot cost him the match, particularly one which can be played over five sets. Yes there was some sloppy play but there was a lot of brilliance as well, although having to contend with an injury that was clearly troubling him was never likely to do his cause much good. Out of interest I checked out hip flexor injuries and treatment for even the slightest strain is to stop doing the activity that caused it for at least one week. Andy did not have that luxury before playing undoubtedly one of the most talented and bruising tennis players ever, particuarly in front of a home crowd a large section of which was supporting that opponent.

I think this person is somebody who doesn't speak English well, if at all, and may therefore be using one of the online translation services (which are pretty useless and come up with some very odd things). My understanding is that he/she is basically saying that Murray should now retire from tennis.

He really had us going in the first set, didn't he?
But I guess for him it will be am extremely slow progression, taking a set off Rafa at wimbles is a little inroads.
Why did he fall off after that missed forehand. Never the same again after that

Now they will say he is never going to win a Grand Slam! Well thats only true if he believes it. Andy clearly has the game and the will, to beat the top three.
So why does he fail to win the big matches? In my opinion he dwells on the big points that go against him and is still playing those points in his head for too long. Make a mistake move on, the next point is the important point not the one you just lost! I doubt he needs anyone to tell him that. All easy to say when you are watching on TV instead of playing in front of the worlds press, your family and millions of spectators. Andy can win the big matches, he just needs to REALLY believe it.
Andy is still the greatest player Britain has produced, he is also one of the greatest players to grace a tennis court. T o reach the level he has to date shows an ability in his chosen profession most of us can only dream of.
I can only imagine how he must feel this morning but he is an inspiration. Andy people will judge you as much by how you fail as how you succeed. Britain should be proud!

Seems to me that Gilbert brought out the worst in Andy temperamentally. He clearly drove him nuts and that's not going to help Andy play in a calm and focused way. I just hope that Cahill can spend more time with him and that this will spur Andy on rather than precipitate another slump. And I hope that the media don't come down on him like some of the fairweather friends that Andy has on MW [and some of them can't even show that much support when the weather is fair so god knows what they're still doing here].
I agree Ruthie.......especially about the 'fairweather friends'! What they're doing here, is everthing but supporting Andy! We'll never get rid of them unless Mark decides to chuck them out, but at least we know who they are! Personally, I think I'll just pretend they don't exist from now on! I'm not including Boogers in that though as, strange as it may seem, I do believe he is a true Andy fan.......Though I don't like it, I think the negativity is a form of defence in a way!

OK refuse to be negative! For a set and a half Andy was beating Rafa. Somehow that missed volley to give him a break, completely drained his confidence. However, we all know that you give Rafa a chink in your armour he will rip it off you.
Being bludgeoned by that incredible accurate forehand point after point, game after game, must in itself be soul destroying. Plus Rafa is at the top of his game and probably the best match player the game has ever known.
Also, feel Andy was injured. Adrenaline was keeping him safe but after THAT game it drained away.
I, too wonder how long he'll continue to put himself through this

Ruthie, Aileen Caz, thanx
us gals will stay positive, right
Question: Andy has played better tennis than Nole all through the tournament so why is Nole in the final and not Andy?
Answer: Rafael Nadal, that's why!
I'm prepared to eat my words come Sunday...but Nole will need Rafa to be right off his game and how likely is that after the display yesterday?
Am sure Andy had an injury, but why on earth he didn't do a bit of gamesmanship himself, have the trainer back on, go to the treatment room etc? Scottish pride/ stubborness/a belief that it's wrong?

Just spoke to a very disappointed Murray, handling it better than most of us would. Hope reaction reflects that, not optimistic
."
No, Piers, neither am I. Far too much hype and expectation as usual come Wimbledon, then when "our hero" fails to produce, in go the knives - sadly a familiar British past-time.
All things considered, I think Murray performed well today, but whereas he is a very, very good player, Nadal is a great one who will take full advantage of the slightest aberration on the part of his opponent, and unfortunately Murray gave him those chances.
I am convinced that Murray's hip injury did play at least a part in this defeat because, throughout the whole tournament, I've been impressed by the improvement in his mental attitude, particularly his on-court behaviour. He's stopped beating himself up when he loses points and is instead trying to channel his anger and frustration into his shots. His serve too has greatly improved. He's said he knows he has to work on the mental side of his game, and seems to be showing signs of succeeding, but it's early days for judging just how successful this will ultimately prove to be.
That's what I've been looking for Aileen.....I was beginning to think I was the only one to see he had a problem! I thought it was a groin injury though! He should have let the trainers sort him out! Trouble is, when Andy has a problem, he tends to keep it low key instead of 'milking it' like some of the others, of whom Nadal is the worst! I think that speaks volumes about Andy's character which is why I love him so much! Now, I can't even look at Nadal without thinking 'faker'!
