Murray handed sticky Roland Garros draw

Quote

The draw for the 2010 French Open was made this morning and Andy Murray has been handed a tricky first round encounter with Frenchman Richard Gasquet.

Murray's probable route to the final is:

R1: Gasquet (FRA)
R2: Chela (ARG)
R3: Baghdatis (CYP)
R4: Berdych (CZE)
QF: Tsonga (FRA)
SF: Federer (SUI)
F: Nadal (ESP)

Jesus wept, what an absolute horror of a draw. shocking

Then again, on further reflection, Baghdatis is poor on clay. Chela was dispatched with ease recently.

But getting Dicky Gasquet in R1 is a real banana skin, you can just envisage Gasquet playing revitalised tennis in front of his home crowd. Then again, his record here is lamentable.

With objective analysis, I think he's got a chance of a decent run if he gets past Gasquet. That's the immediate obstacle that throws the rest of his draw into doubt.

He's been doing better in the last couple of tourneys from what I've seen. Don't see why he can't have a good tournament here. The first round is tough to call though - inspired Gasquet or mental midget Gasquet? Think

Inspired and mental midget Gasquet usally come in the same package, at Slams especially he's playing top 5 standard Tennis but can't get over the line.

Berdych's got Isner in the 3R, who just won the first set 6-1 against him in Dusseldorf, so he could easily slip up before he even gets to Murray.

Gasquet just made the final in Nice and has now won 9 matches in the past 2 weeks.

Yes, that is correct. Gasquet beat Potito Starace 7-6, 7-6. However, please recall that Andy beat Starace in last year's RG, 3 sets to 1.

Therefore, Gasquet's success today is meaningless.

'Last year' is the key phrase. Gasquet has improved, so I don't get why his up and coming performance should be judged as  meaningless before a ball has even been struck.  I'm all for Andy, but some of the comments on here are bordering on the ridiculous.

It's one thing to support your man, and quite another to pick away at the achievements of others.

Gasquet hasn't beaten anyone of any note this year! I can't see Murray losing this one....the match will be a big step up for Gasquet
