Murray outplays Berdych to reach third Wimbledon final

Quote

Andy Murray was too strong for Tomas Berdych in the Wimbledon semi-final, beating him 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 to reach Sunday's final.

Murray was rarely troubled by the tenth seed, able to nullify the Czech's power game with clever variety, outmanoeuvring him and keeping his own unforced errors to a minimum.

The pair exchanged breaks to start the match and the first set then continued on serve for a few games. But Murray was settling into the match, moving Berdych around the baseline with more success. Errors began to flow off the Czech's racquet and a costly forehand error gave Murray a 5-3 lead. The Scot duly served out the set, an ace clinching it.

Berdych had a chance of getting back into the match in the second set, creating break points on Murray's serve at 3-2. But Murray put up typically strong resistance and withstood the pressure, before turning the tables in the next game to break. The Czech faded, and another break came at 5-3 - a fantastic forehand pass sealing the set for Murray.

Murray had been troubled from two sets up against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the quarter-finals, but there was to be no repeat here. The second seed was dismantling Berdych's high-risk game, and he confidently broke to take a 3-1 lead. Murray never looked back, easing through the remaining games to go through to another Wimbledon final.

He will play Canadian Milos Raonic in the final, who beat seven-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer in today's other semi-final.

Nice report, and a refreshingly relaxing watch after Jo Willy

Andy played very smart today.  I noticed Andy made special efforts to slice and keep the ball very low.  Being very tall, Berdych had trouble bending down very low to get into the correct strike position.  Andy was able to exploit this weakness which contributed to the high number of errors strewn from Berdych's racket when he hitting the ball from a non optimum position.  Luckily he has no coach to tell him this Smile

Thanks for the report Katie.  Fortunately this match turned out to be much less stressful than some had predicted.  Berdych though needs to get another coach asap because he seemed devoid of any obvious game plan and sounded quite despondent in his post-match interview, like he lacked confidence in himself.  However I'm not complaining because the last thing Andy needed was another difficult four or five setter!

No messing about there, so good, Andy!   I remember when I used to be afraid of Berdych! (ha).  On we go!

Nice report, thanks Katie... I find the mainstream media reporting of most sport these days to be somewhat OTT, that is refreshingly concise. Smile

I have been considering Murray's sporting achievements of late, as I've watched him reach his 3rd Wimbledon final (and what a great shot at a second title), and was reminded of a troll on here many years ago by the name of fuzzyballs (in those far off days when this site was such a huge part of my life), who confidently predicted Murray's failure to win any slams, Wimbledon or otherwise, that he would never make it to the top of the game, and that he would fall out of the top 1000 within a short time period, and other such nonsense along those lines. (Strange character, seemed like a Murray fan at first and then completely lost it for one reason or another).

I thought I'd check back into the forum today and see if he was still around, and while I am amused and not in the least surprised to see he was banned several years back, I thought I'd look through some old posts for entertainment value... I had a little chuckle when I saw that his first post concerned Murray beating Berdych in 3 sets (in Basel I think... http://www.murraysworld.com/forum/andy-murray/the-reason-for-the-murray-hating-at-mtf/msg13072/#msg13072 ).

Anyway... long time no see/speak... hello to all Andy's fans and MW members, old and new... hope you've enjoyed this Wimbledon as much as I have, good luck to Mr Murray for tomorrow, COME ON ANDY!!!  cmon yeah cmon yeah cmon yeah

Welcome back Riverman! wave  I've been a member for six and a half years but fuzzyballs was still around for a while after I joined making all sorts of ridiculous statements until one day he just went a step too far, and that was it!
