Acrostic poetry...
« on: November 21, 2008, 09:42 am »
Quote
In a moment of ridiculousness, and in an effort to see us through to the New Year without going mad from grief at the lack of tennis, I have come up with an idea for a new game based on acrostic poetry. An acrostic poem is one where the first letter of each line spells a word downwards. To make it a game, the person who completes a poem has to then suggest a word or phrase for the next poem, and so on... The poems have to link to the theme of the word/phrase.
This may well be a complete disaster - however it may also reveal hitherto untapped reservoirs of creativity in the MW camp!
To begin
M
any times, in sheer desperation
U
nbidden despairing thoughts
R
ose in my mind.
"
R

A
re all we have!
Y
ou fool! Dreams of
S
lams and Master's titles
W
ill come to nought!"
O
h, but what light breaks, now
R

L

D
reams? Hope - thy name is Murray.
Next phrase:

S
hallowville is a place where naked ladies are housed.
H
ow often do people go there so that they can feel aroused?
A
las it seems it is a very common trip for all.
L
ooking and leering at ladies in their smalls.
L
ike all good men before us,
O
f course, some ladies too.
W
e can't help but looking when someone might be in the nude
V
arieties of ladies. Of race and shape and size
I
t's not just a thread for blokes. Girls pop in to criticise
"
L
ook! Her boobs are funny" and
"
L
ook at her big bum"
E
ven though it is annoying, we only want to join in the fun!
That was hard! I used to love doing acrostic poems in school

Thanks Elly - bit of a slow burner, this thread
There goes my plan of publishing a Murray's World poetry book for the festive season...
How you doing anyway? I'm on holiday at the moment
