If I feel a cold coming on, what do you recommend I do to put a stop to it ASAP?

There is no cure for the common cold. You have two choices
1) Claim symptoms of "man flu"- act overly sick and rely on your gf to look after you, tell her thinsg that will make you better, i.e. i would like some "hugs" etc etc
2) stop being such a wimp and deal with it, eat well and wrap up warm, it is winter after all!! (personally i prefer number 1)

Whats the best Christmas gift for a Mother?
The best xmas gift for a mother depends on the mother. Since it;s xmas i believe in getting joint gifts for my parents, it also depends on their age. My parents are of the age where they are still improving their home and still working. Hence a large picture for the wall is what they are getting. They have lots of these and i have one of similar design to fill a space.
What I am saying is this: If you put a little bit of thought into it, then your Mother will be delighted by what you have got her. If you put no thought in, she won't be quite as delighted, but will still appreciate the thought as she loves you no matter what. Just
don't buy her anything you would like yourself
, that improves the chances of her being delighted 10 fold!

Most of the time. I suppose it depends on who I am advising and what their problem is. If it;s to do with relationships, pregnacy, abortions and so on - been there done that, got the t-shirt- then I like to think i know how to sort things out.
But the great way to be good as advice giving is realising this- everyone already knows the answers, you just have to help them find them. I can't tell someone if they should break up with their boyfriend for example. I don't know the whole story, i often don;t know the people, but they do and they can decide. It;s about guiding people to make decisions rather than telling them what to do.
Even mark and his cold has choices
As does the mother;s gift, there is no right answer, only choices which are all correct but some better than others. That;s what i learnt about 18 months ago, and i like helping people out too.

What's your problem? I know you hate your job? But not much else about it. Up to you. (that's another thing too, giving advice only works if people want and more importantly NEED it. Because they don't always. If the answer seems really obvious to me, i usually don't say, because that person should know. It;s a complicated thought process. lol. Who would have known!

Well I asked that to see Chris's response not that I actually needed advice
in fact the chances are my advice over colds is almost certainly better than yours
