Some books from a very funky bookshop.

Got an anthology of 'Poets of Our Time' (Betjeman, RS Thoman etc.) for £1, an old edition of some of Shakespeares historical plays for £1 and an amazing book from the 1950's called 'Years of Grace', which has essays for young women on things like 'Care of the Skin and Hair' by Elizabeth Arden, 'Parties' by Elizabeth Cadell, 'The Princess Margaret' by Noel Streatfield, 'Sketching' by Cora Gordon, 'Ballet as a Career' by Arnold Haskell, and 'Shop-keeping' by Joan Woollcombe.

The opening line is 'When I become Prime Minister, I shall introduce a law: the study of glamour will become a compulsory subject for all girls at school. Science and algebra are all very well, but they will not be much use to you in life unless you also know all about glamour.' This was written by a lady doctor.

Amazing! And only 20p!

My daughters music exam in December $164, and my hubby's tax bill $600+ fainting and that was because they don't do P45's here, so new employers don't know what you earned at your last employment and they don't tax you at the appropriate rate shocking

A ludicrous $2.50 for a can of Pepsi last night at pool (friend's 21st). They had the most massive heater in there that made it so hot, so of course everyone would have to buy a drink from the bar. Good bit if business I guess. lol
