What are you reading right now?

There was an undercurrent of disapproval, that's all.

Yes, if you have a problem with that then would be good to hear your reasons.

I haven't got a problem with that, have you?

I don't have a problem with your undercurrent of disapproval.  Is it all right not to have a problem with your "implied" undercurrent of disapproval?

Ah yes a bit of paranoid anti-semitism for Christmas. Well i guess if you run out of toilet paper...
I'm not very far into this book, but I know David Icke is not anti-semitic or anti any race. He sees the human body as just a vehicle for the spirit inside, for the duration of that lifetime, so race, colour or religion makes no difference.  He is however, anti bad people who would use their power to exert complete control over every living human. So far, he has spoken a lot about the Rothschilds and Rockefellers. Here's a little of what he says......

The extent of Rothschild influence by now can hardly be overstated. When Nathan died, his eldest son Lionel took his place as the head of N.M. Rothschild. Lionel advanced massive loans to the British and American governments and others such as the Egyptians. This included a loan of $80 million to Britain to finance the (Elite-engineered) Crimean War in which tens of thousands of people died. Lionel also acted as agent to the Russian government for 20 years. He was succeeded by his eldest son Nathan Mayer, who became the first Lord Rothschild when he was raised to the peerage and took his seat in the British House of Lords in 1885. The first Lord Rothschild went on to become the governor of te Bank of England, with untold power to influence the world financial system. The 'Old Lady of Threadneedle Street' (as the Bank of England is called) has always been and remains, an arm of the Global Elite. The Rothschild representatives across the world continued to manipulate events to expand their power and to serve a longer-term agenda which mirrored that of the Brotherhood: world domination.

Then he said this....

I stress here that to highlight the part played by the Rothschilds is not to cast aspersions on the Jewish people as a whole, the vast majority of whome have no idea what is happening and certainly would not support it if they did know. Many of the members of families I will name, like the Rothschilds, Rockefellers and others, do not know thw game plan either. It is those who control these empires that I'm seeking to expose, not everyone whose name is Rothschild, Rockefeller or whatever. I believe that researchers over the years who have blamed the entire conspiracy on the Jewish people as a whole are seriously misguided, similarly for Jewish organisations to deny that 'any' Jewish person is working for the New World Order conspiracy is equally naive, allowing dogma or worse to blind them to reality. We are looking at a common thread - a lust for power and the All- seeing Eye Cult which goes mostly unknowingly - to a higher controlling force.

Al....whatever else you may think of David Icke, I hope you can now see he is not anti-semititic. Actually....he's not anti anybody, except bad people.

^  The thing is that David Icke is a conspiracy theorist, you just can't believe everything he says.
I haven't read the book you were mentioning.

Thanks Caz. It is certainly fair to say Icke has denied the charge of anti-semitism, so I guess it is reasonable to highlight the kinds of arguments he uses, which you have now done above.

However, I am not convinced. It COULD be that he really does think big Lizards are controlling the world (in which case he is just crazily paranoid), but against that a number of issues suggest otherwise. A useful piece below talks about both Icke and Labour's recent issues around anti-semitism....

Al....I take your point, so I've just checked and this book was published in 1995. That's nearly a quarter of a century ago! I don't remember anyone even talking about anti-semitism back then. Do you? As for the lizards, that put me off David Icke for a very long time, but he admits he's never seen one himself. However, there are reports from people all around the world who say they have.

Thanks Caz. Yes there was discussion of that aspect back then, see this review of the book from 1996...

The most obviously alarming thing is Icke's use of 'The Protocols....' mentioned above. Even if his prime concern is Lizards (!) then still no excuse for using this proven fake anti-semitic document as a source...

It's good that there's been a lot of discussion re the book Caz is reading. But I now wonder about mentioning other books we might be reading because what if they generate undercurrents of disapproval too?
I'm reading "The Tattooist of Auschwitz" which is based on the true story of Leo Sokolov. I've been reading this book for around 3 weeks now and it's good, but there have been so many things which have interrupted my reading during the holiday.

Sounds like a book everyone should read to remind them of the atrocities the Jews suffered at the hands of the Nazis - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/stories-42568390

Yes that's the book, thanks.  I like Schindler's List too.  But I often read WW1 poetry and I think Wilfred Own and Siegfried Sassoon are good.  Wilfred Owen lived in Ripon for a while during WW1.  In April 2018 it was the anniversary of his birthday  and they had a service for him at Ripon Cathedral.
There were a lot of commemorations and lots and lots of poppies in Ripon for Armistice Day 2018.  There were 30,000 troops stationed there in WW1.

MG mentioned Schindler's List, which I agree is very good. Just saw this article...

That's very interesting Althusser. I think it's a good idea for the far right to have tickets to see Schindlers List.  It needs to be shown to a wide audience.
I've always liked the book of the same title and I have it here, at my side! Smile
Steven Spielberg's film is very good and Liam Neeson is a nice actor.
The Holocaust should always be remembered in Germany and everywhere - younger people need to know about it too, of course.
On Jewish graves they lay stones - I'm not sure of the proper reason for doing so, do you know why they do it?
I've been to Ypres and to the battlefields in Belgium and the war graves are interesting to visit - this was for WW1 of course.
