What are you reading right now?

On Jewish graves they lay stones - I'm not sure of the proper reason for doing so, do you know why they do it?
This article will give you the answer, and very interesting it is too - https://www.myjewishlearning.com/article/putting-stones-on-jewish-graves/

Thanks Aileen, that's very helpful and very interesting.  On that trip to Belgium we visited lots of WW1 cemeteries.
They had Jewish graves as well as British graves.  The gravestones for the Jews had that star on the actual grave stone itself.  & where some of the graves had had visitors, there were usually a number of stones which had been laid.

This thread is quite good really.  & rather than just saying "I'm reading XXYYXX and it's good" it's nice to be able to have a discussion about the XXYYXX book.

Did you used to read them?  Have you got any to read?  You might have a book that you used to like to read and you could go back to it and read it again?  Such as The White South, Hammond Innes .......

I used to be an avid book reader, but it must be at least 25 years since I last read anything, and I have no desire to start again now.

You can read MW instead of books these days then.

Joke!  There isn't all that much to read on it these days unless you happen to be interested in politics so my main reading is the news and other articles on the MSN homepage provided the title sounds like it might be interesting.

I've just read:
"Why I'm No Longer Talking To White People About Race" by Renni Eddo-Lodge

I'm currently reading:
"London Belongs To Me" by Norman Collins
"Speaking Out" by Ed Balls
"Les Miserables" by Victor Hugo (slowly...)

I can't imagine not having books on the go.  I just can't imagine it!

I have to reply quickly because I really have to log off.  I love London Belongs To Me and I've had the book for a long time Smile
I'm reading Tom Brown's Schooldays which is good and I recently watched it on YouTube, the film was from 1948 I think!

I love all my books and they're all over the house and everywhere! Smile

The Stranger Beside Me - Ann Rule.  This is very good and is how the author (Ann Rule) worked at a crisis centre in the US and her work-mate was Ted Bundy.  Ted Bundy was young and attractive and pleasant to work with.  They became friends over time.  There had been reports of girls murdered and raped and it became clear that Ted Bundy was a mass murderer,
The story tells how he found and tricked and raped girls and murdered them and how he was finally caught in Tallahassee in Florida and went to prison and was finally executed in the electric chair.

I can't even begin to imagine not reading books. It's a key part of who I am. Currently:
The 15 Lives of Harry August by Claire North.
R is for Ricochet by Sue Grafton.
Just read, for my book club:
Under The Skin by Michael Faber
The Kindness of Strangers  by Kate Adie.
If you're at all interested in the major events of the last 40 years really recommend Adie. She was there! Well written too.

Is it good? Really liked the film that was made based on it.

Alas, I thought it was vile  yuk Rape, torture, disfigurement and, for me, it hangs on an all too familiar trope. Writer seems to have an adolescent fixation with large breasts too, Can't begin to imagine Scarlett Johansson, a lovely woman, as the central, grossly disfigured character either.
Can't wait to tear into it at my book club   Rolling Eyes
