What are you reading right now?

^  During the lockdown I've had time to catch up on my reading.  I'm now (at last) reading Cilka's Journey which is very interesting and worth the time spent reading it.

Glad to hear someone is getting some reading done. I thought I’d read loads of new books through this, but finding it impossible to focus on any books.

It depends on the book - if it holds your interest then it distracts you from what's all around us.

Wasn't sure where to put this. Seriously interesting story - a real life Lord of the Flies, but things turned out much better...

I rarely look at this thread because I haven't read a book for over 20 years, even although I was an avid reader in my younger days - but that certainly caught my attention, particularly as I do remember reading Golding's book and finding it rather depressing (to put it mildly).  That story though was absolutely amazing!

Yes it's an interesting story, thanks for the link.
Sorry I somehow didn't see your post earlier, I'm only a week late.

I can't imagine not reading a book in over 20 years!

I've usually got a few on the go - for reference, entertainment, and fact.  Currently:

Vol 2 of Charles Moore's biography of Mrs Thatcher
The Wilding by Isabella Tree - hope to go there next year

About to start The Plague by Camus

Camus's book sounds quite apt in the circumstances, although as I understand it the story isn't really about The Plague but about France under Nazi occupation.

Indeed so, Aileen.  While I don't expect it to be light reading, I hope it's more interesting and informative than depressing...

I hope so too because we've got enough to depress us right now without adding to it.

I'm not sure if I'd want to read The Plague - but people are apparently reading books about the 1918  Spanish flu these days, and also more people are watching the film "Virus".
I like Nevil Shute's On the Beach, it's such a good story, but I don't read it at all right now, it seems a bit too close to home.

The 2011 film 'Contagion' is also being widely watched.  A friend saw it on Netflix the other day and felt it was a bit too close to reality, although it was otherwise a good film.   Also the virus mortality rate in the film was 25% and usually killed within 72 hours, which thankfully isn't the case with covid.

Definitely not light, but I think you'll find it interesting - there's something important in it about the significance of bearing witness.
